What could cause my acne to be this terrible? (Photo )

I'm starting to feel really low because of the acne I'm getting and from the treatments I tried so far it just seems to get even worse.

I'm a 24 year old male and it started last summer. This week I've had my worst nodule (what I think it is anyway) ever and now I don't want to leave the house and feel so alone with this issue. I've got scars and I used to have clear skin.

I've attached some photos just be prepared.

The first is the one I have now and the second is back to a bad breakout in March..

I'm taking Erythromycin prescribed by my Dermatologist since beginning of May. I think I've seen a little improvement with less pustales but when I get acne now, it seems to be really bad.

Before I take Isotretinoin and experience the side effects from it, what could cause my acne to be this bad and how could I potentially fix it? Is it my facial hair?

I've bought Acnecide from Boots just waiting for the Pharmacist's review, and I bought this cream called Eclat from Amazon. I just feel vulnerable I'll waste my money on expensive treatments which don't work.

Also, I have eczema and suffer from dry skin. I have some allergies and I've tried Lymecycline antibiotic and it didn't work.

Any advice appreciated, I give up asking my dermatologist for alternate treatments.

hi, im sorry to hear youre suffering so much with acne. My acne was the same, i was diagnosed with cystic acne & was told it was hereditory so it may be the same for you.

I had acne like this for about 7 years. I tried eeeeverything, including the things youve mentioned. Nothing worked because the acne is so deep under the skin.

Finally went on isotretinion 2 years ago for 6 months & as much as i hate those things my skin has been clear since, i had all the side effects but perservered through them.

I made sure i had no alcohol & ate lots of food that helps the liver, avoided highly fatty foods & drank lots of water. If you do ever take them just take them seriously & look after your body through them 😃

Hi Liz, thank you so much for your reply. Yes, it might be possible I have the same. My dermatologist said some people develop acne in their later years and my dad had acne. I got it as a teen but not so bad I've had recently, they were only pimples pretty much.

But that's good that Isotretinoin worked for your skin. I was mostly concerned with side effects like low mood or developing other conditions taking it. I am certainly considering the treatment still.

      Thanks again for your reply.

My nephew had this problem in his 20's and tried everything. It wasn't until he took rouccatine (spelling?) that his skin cleared up. This can have some nasty side effects so tends to be only used as a last resort. Ask your deem.
