What could these be symptoms of?

On Friday after I finished eating dinner I noticed that my throat began to feel like someone had lodged their knuckle straight down inside of it. I figured I just didn't chew my food well enough and grabbed something to drink to chase it down. It went down but I still felt that same feeling. So I figured it was maybe mucus or phlegm caught in my throat. But as I walked back to my dorm I began to feel short of breath. Of course this spiked my anxiety which made things ten times worse! Yesterday I spent my entire day inside as I felt worse. This time my balance was off a little and I was a bit dizzy. Same feeling in my throat as well along with hoarseness. Today is much worse. My throat doesn't feel like it's closing but feels like it's full of nothing but mucus and phlegm which I've been hacking up all day. I felt very light headed earlier so I made a trip to the cafeteria as I hadn't had anything to eat since yesterday morning. But when I sat down I started swaying a bit and everything around me didn't spin but looked like it was about to. This made me quite nervous so I didn't really get to enjoy my meal. Thankfully this time I didn't have any trouble swallowing but over all I just felt and still do feel very weak. Sudden movements such as bending over and then jerking back up or rapid moving back and forth like cleaning make me feel fatigued and dizzy which isn't something that normally happens. I figured it was a part of the early symptoms of my period (this would be normal for me minus the breathing difficulties because I have BAD periods) but it hasn't started yet so whatever this is has got me a bit concerned. I feel fine when I lay down which I find weird but if I stand or sit I feel wobbly and weak. I go home on Friday but I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with waiting that long and the health care and doctors around at the university and town are not really the best or the fastest but I may pay the clinic a visit tomorrow anyways. What does this sound like though? I'm in no pain, just tired and weak which is very unlike me and what can I do to get rid of the mucus?

Hi, Aubree!  Sounds like a rough weekend! sad

Can you get/take a decongestant? Taking those for a few days usually greatly helps my dizziness (but makes me dizzy when I start taking it, ugh...but after the first day it's far better!) I also have a hormone-driven dizziness that happens in my cycles, too. (Why? IDK, my periods can be bad too! But, I'm much older so I can tell you that will likely get better for ya down the road...)

Treat the congestion symptoms (not just antihistamine but one with a decongestant) and you'll probably feel better - plus lots of water &/or tea (especially decaf). And try to rest if you can. When you're moving and feel dizzy, stop and rest your eyes (closed or staring at a fixed point, whatever feels better). You may have a bad cold or even strep throat - a trip to the clinic can get you some answers. It does seem like you can wait it out until Friday if you feel better waiting.

GL to you - let us know how you get on over the next few days!

Thank you! I've been sipping hot tea all weekend which seems to slowly be working in helping break down the congestion in my chest and throat. It seems like after I had something to eat, I started to feel a little bit better but also started to get that tiring run down feeling like my body is trying to fight off something. I took a few cough drops which have helped open me up a bit more and so far my breathing is much better though I try not to make too many sudden movements. Hopefully I'll continue to feel somewhat better by tomorrow at least. I'll keep you updated!

Further information I left out just in case: I'm in no pain, but I've been really sleepy lately (could be a menstural symptom), if I sit or sometimes lay completely still I get this boat rocking sensation (not to be confused with the terrible room spinning sensation of vertigo) and earlier my nose was stuffy but not in the way that I could blow it. It was more further on up into my nasal cavities where my sinuses are which didn't really do much but make breathing much more of an issue. But now I've pretty much got my shortness of breath handled and dealt with for the most part as long as I rest and don't make any quick or sudden movements.

I'm feeling so much better than I was yesterday. The mucus is finally clearing up and I'm able to cough it up as the day goes by. I think I just may have picked up a bug or something as today that "sick run down" feeling really hit me especially this morning. I was very sluggish and felt sorta weak in the legs like my body was just trying to tell me to take it easy. I have a bit of a dry cough coming on and my throat is a little itchy and starting to become sore which I'm trying to stop now while I can. I'm also trying to remind myself not to talk too much so that I can regain my voice. So in short, I feel like crap still just not as bad as yesterday.

Hi, Aubree! Glad to hear you're getting better! Liquids (without alcohol and caffeine) will help with your throat/voice as well as dizziness and mucuous - and yes, keep trying to take it easy.   Pushing too hard may just make your recovery time longer...

Friday will be here before you know it! Hang in there!

Can you recall what you were eating when you had that first attack of intense mucus and shortness of breath? This could be an acute attack of allergy to something you ate.         I get this if I eat chocolate, but my niece feels like that after eating brazil nuts. I'm guessing the usual peanut allergy starts something like your description. Its just a possibility .
