Gradual process for me, but I started to improve from quite early on. Just feel more like myself. Don't feel like a big lazy slug any more. Don't sleep all weekend. Went to the supermarket by myself like it was no big deal. Met up with an old friend for coffee. None of these things would have been remotely possible before taking fluoxetine. Hope you are good!

Hi, I just recently started back up on Prozac myself. I've been on it in the past so I already kind of know what to expect. I'm only on day 4 so far at 10mg and will go to 20mg after day 7. I made sure to start at the lower dose this time due to the anxiety it initially causes. So I just want to say to anyone struggling with the side effects that they will get better. Due to the long half life of Prozac it takes a longer time then most ssri's to get into your system causing it to take a longer time to kick in. And unfortunately that means the side effects might last a little longer as well. I know for me it causes my anxiety and depression to worsen for the first 1-2 weeks. After that it starts getting better each week. Hang in there everyone

Hi. Thanks to all past and current. Just started 10mg today, planning 20 fter a week. Been depressed about a year or more. Offshoot of work induced PTSD. I have basically the numbed emotions and drowsiness. Work has mandated me off for 6 mos. I have improved steadily both by feel and psych tests. Joining the prozac generation to get my career and life back sooner. Want to add that diet, exercise, keeping productive etc can do wonders but looks like it can't get me all the way fast enough for real life. Fingers crossed.

I am going on 5 1/2 weeks of 20mg of Fluoxetine. My anxiety is nerves. Week 1 (I started with 10mg) was okay, body just adjusting to the new meds. Week 2 (went up to 20mg) my anxiety actually worsened but that was expected (it got better). The past few weeks have been okay, random hiccups here and there but for the most part my appetite has come back (which was my main concern) but I still get random nerves. I don't think I am fully there yet with being over that hump but i know it is working. Keep at it, and don't give up. It takes time (everyone varies), but it does get better.

I don't wake up with dread anymore.. it just fizzled out a few weeks ago around Christmas. I've started making plans again which is good and I feel warm and fuzzy most of the time which is great. I do have a few moments here and there but I'm definitely in a better place right now.

I didn't realize it working until about 6 months later and I was kinda looking at myself like wow, I can't believe I used to cry every single day. I looked back and couldn't believe how depressed and anxious I actually used to be. And now, I feel normal. I'm not having crazy outbursts that I can't explain every day. I'm not laying in the kitchen floor in the dark crying my eyes out and not understanding why.. I'm not crying at work and walking out to sit on the ground and cry because I just feel too overwhelmed.. I just feel like you don't notice it's working until it's already been working for a while. Just suddenly you look at yourself and think wow, I can't believe I ever felt like that. I don't know what I'd do without this stuff. I'm very thankful.

How long did it take to start working? I'm on week 2 of fluoxetine, and I don't know if it's helping. I cried for almost three hours last night.

I just started taking 20mg of fluoxetine two weeks ago. I felt better at first, but now I'm back in the real world and I'm starting to slip backwards again. I cried for almost three hours last night. How can I tell if the fluoxetine is working? Is it too early?

Prozac works by keeping the serotonin that your body naturally makes out longer. It doesn't actually make more serotonin, so it doesn't change your brain chemistry. It won't make you go crazy. It can lead to worsening anxiety and depression, but that doesn't happen very often. Just keep your doctor informed about what's going on and he should be able to tell you what to take or not to take. Good luck
