What foods do u avoid?

This may seem crazy but a friend has suggested that I "eat myself ill" ready for my next tests. By this I mean, my diet is so limited so that I can control my symptoms enougj to enable me to work 40hrs, that I don't eat anything I know for sure makes me ill. Therefore, if I eat things that I know DO make me ill and exacerbate my symptoms, I may finally get a diagnosis of something other than "dysfunctional bowel". Crazy I know! Basically, every day I eat:-

White toast with dairy free spread

white bread with turkey, plain crisps, a kit kat

either gluten free pasta or boiled rice with turkey or a fish cake and carrots or sweetcorn.

That's basically what I eat. My main offenders are: dairy fruit vegetables meat onion garlic pasta tomatoes and oranges are particularly bad. I can't eat oats, coconut or a lot of wheat. I'm lactose intolerant and I can't eat eggs. All these things either alone or in foods make me vomit, flare up my pain and have me going to the loo up to 17x a day.

As much as I don't relish the thought of "eating myself ill" it does make sense kind of sad

Sorry to hear your having problems. I to struggle with my diet and find it very frustrating.

The problem with asking advice about diet is that everyone reacts to different foods and have different requirements for example myself is low fiber diet along with easy to digest food. I avoid takeaways, fatty/greasy food, tomatoes and things with skin on. However I know of people who require a high fiber diet.

I was told to completely stop back your diet and introduce foods one by one and you will find out which things upset your stomach. I get proscribed ensure drinks to make sure I'm getting all the vitamins and calories I need.

Hope this has been of some help and you feel better soon.

    HI jo

Totally understand your frustration but would tend not agree with your friend's advice to eat yourself ill for your next lot of tests.  Crohn's is a very nasty complaint and one which does not need any help to make you feel lousy. My advice would be to find your way to foods that give you a bit of peace and quiet from the bouts of pain and suffering. I found that baked potatoes with pineapple help to soothe. Don't drink hot drinks, tepid is better, hot will make you eat the rest of your food on the toilet. You do learn to get around things, and personally I will not allow the Crohn's to dictate my life. That sounds stupid I know, but you get confidence from managing your own problem. Try not to be too obsessed with what you can and can't eat. I have had the complaint for over 50 years now and can honestly say, hand on heart, that I can now eat whatever I prefer, which includes mild curries etc. Breakfast is very important to me as it starts the day, so I take time to enjoy it. When I had my big op (Colostomy) the first thing I really enjoyed was a bowl of chips!!!! You do get to be very picky with food and personally I find that smells from food make me feel sick.  So to bring this to a close my advice is not to consider eating yourself ill, but set yourself up as a worthy defender against the Crohns. Believe me people do not understand the pain and suffering - lets face it to others it is boring as a subject.  Best wishes and I hope you find your way forward now.
