What good will they do?

hi people, i need someone to nicely explain why this has happened? it's this: i am a ptsd victim, i have had support off a counselling service which is voluntary. now right at the end of this year, which is what they offer, i am informed by the clinical lead that she'd recommend i speak to community mental health. i was assaulted i don't take medication, i don't have a cpn i speak to, i have NEVER been in a mental health unit and am fighting physical ill health as well as mental ill health. is this where everyone suggests, if so why? doctor's put you on pills, for over 12 years my doctor's misdiagnosed IBS which is coeliac disease! i don't want ANY antidepressants in my system! i was raped, i have comlex PTSD. what else can i do besides have crxx mental health written on my doctor's notes for all to see? i went to just sleep without flashbacks. i know it seems strange putting this on here but does anyone know about the medication side. i absolutely don't want antidepressants! thanks

Hallo Sam. I am so sorry to hear about your situation.Mental Health problems can affect all of us at some time, and it does not mean you will be stigmatised in the future because of this. You have had counselling and now have been assessed that you need further help from the from Community Mental Health team.

If you are having awful flashbacks and are unable to sleep do try whatever medication is suggested. It may help more than you think. There are several types you can try and if one doesnt suit you then you can try another until you find the treatment you are happy with. There are many people who have gone down this route and are now leading relatively untroubled lives. You sound very angry at life in general and this would help you deal with those feelings

If you are rejecting this sort of treatment, what sort of treatment do you think would help? If you just want to keep having counselling then do explain that to Community Mental Health. They will not insist that you take medication if you dont want to.

I hope you find the relief you obviously need. If i could hug you I would.

hi Martina, i feel very confused by this whole situation and think mental health is so poorly looked upon overall that until it is, people with difficulties will continue to struggle. i know from some of the counselling i have had that i definitely know i have PTSD, i know i have anxiety and depression as well as the classic flashbacks from it but i have had some support and so far i have kept away from community mental health and drugs for that matter (not recreation but medication). i prefer to speak to people not really anything else has ever helped. i have had some support from a specialist service that has helped but i know that without support my health drops quickly. i am cross, overall that mental health is treated like dirt, if your leg is broken then someone can see it if your mind is broken then everyone keeps asking what is wrong. it becomes frustrating! i am sure this will eventually be worked out. just the chance sleep will do to begin with, i luckily have more tools i can now use.

People with Mental Health issues are only treated poorly by others who do not understand what is going on. You are correct: break a leg and you get plaster, but when you are mentally ill the the only treatment is counselling/talking and medication.

I understand that you dont want to take any drugs if possible but as with all health problems physical and mental you have to work with your doctor/professional and not against them. As you have specified broken leg and plaster, would you reject the plaster if it was offered? I guess not.

hi Martina, i can understand you. i remember being a teenager with a cracked bone in my foot which i hobbled round school on all day. it wasn't easy but i coped even though i was in terrible pain. it isn't what the medication does that worries me, it's the side effects and the knowledge that new medication makes me ill really quickly and has been proven over the years, i also am frightened that doctor's will dump me on medication and leave it or worse forget how allergic i am to things and what they do to me particularly! i can't now take any antibiotics for instance, i react to so much. doctor's have to find a way to make me balanced without medicine. i will not put money in pharmaceutical conglomorates back pockets either. that's my reason why i won't take them and i will stick to them.
