What has worked for you?

I am on the search for a "cure" for my Blepharitis. I am currently trying hot compress and wet ones twice a day and today is my 7th day and my eye is probably the worst it has been.

What has worked for you? My main aim is to removed my swollen eye lids. I dont really care about the dry skin or red bloodshot eyes, the swelling is very ugly...

After a fair bit of research on the Internet to find a 'cure' for blepharitis for my son's eyes, (including reading all kinds of posts on this forum) we finally came across research that implicates an over-abundance of demodex mites as the cause in some cases of blepharitis - red skin on eyelids, swollen, itching, crusting etc. If you Google ' tea tree oil, demodex and blepharitis', you should find the same kind of info as we did. Basically, tea tree oil is one of the few things that will kill demodex.  My son has been following the regime for about a month, and his eyes are nearly cleared up - a lot of the redness and itching had gone within 7 days of starting treatment with 100% pure tea tree oil diluted 50/50 with virgin olive oil. This is stuff you can buy in the supermarket in the UK, cheap and available. Can't do you any harm to try, either, as long as you dilute. We thought it sounded bonkers, but it has worked !!! unlike all kinds of other creams and pills prescribed by the Dr.

      Hi Tintin,

How do you know when you have Demodex? I have never heard that word or about mites until now.

I will look into these articles thank you, and approach my specialist about it also.

      Hi

i think you would need to see an opthamologist to get an official diagnosis of demodex - they can be seen and counted on eyelashes under a microscope, i understand.

we haven't followed that route, because my son decided just to give tto a go to see if it worked - and it has worked! he had already been to the doctor 3 or 4 times over the last 2 years, and been given the usual advice in the uk, which is to cleanse with baby oil etc, plus various ointments and a course of anti-biotics. none of that had any impact and his eyes were just getting more sore, and the skin redder and redder. he was about to be referred to the opthamologist, but hasn't bothered now

we thought - 'what is there to lose? tea tree oil won't damage the skin or his eyes if used diluted at least 50/50, so let's just try it out, we can go and buy this stuff for less than £5 and start today.'  very very glad we did biggrin

i tried it myself to know what it felt like, and i also wiped my whole face and hairline with a solution 20/80, nothing bad happened -no skin rash or anything. i did have a 'crawling' sensation for a little while afterwards - might have been my imagination though!

anyway, i hope this works for you, if you do decide to give it a try. persevere, you do need to keep going for a least a month, maybe even  up to 3 to be sure xx

I am seeing my Opthamologist again in 2 weeks. I have seen 6 of them so far and none have mentioned Demodex. I will ask specifically for it to be checked though. I would think it would have been picked up by now though with the amount of people that have looked at my eye.

I will give the TTO a go if my eye does not improve more, soon.

      Hi Tintin,
