It varies from person to person, but for me, I think a late night out with alcohol too soon and an allergy flare-up due to the weather change did it for me. Recurrences were very mild, at least.

Food and arginine don't bother me, which is good (clinically unproven, anyway), because I haven't changed my diet and don't particularly want to. Late nights on their own are okay, also tight jeans, even stress (and cigarettes).

Whether any of the above affected viral activity and shedding, I don't know, but even if they did, at least it wasn't enough to cause an actual recurrence!

Personally, I've never had one other than my original outbreak. But anything can trigger an outbreak: stress, bad diet, shaving, waxing, I've heard women sometimes get them when they're on their periods. It really depends on the individual.

Yeah I think there are too many factors of what it could be that caused an outbreak that I can't pin it down

Waxing and laser hair removal are known triggers, though. Some salons even advise prophlaxis treatment for H customers, like I mentioned. Sucks, because I had wanted to do laser hair removal, but now I'm 50/50 about the idea after acquiring H, even with a prophylaxis. rolleyes

Can you talk to the people in the salon about it though?

Hmmm, depends how well you know the staff and whether they mention it on their website, I guess.
