What is a super path hip replacement? Tell me everything you know please :)

A big Hello to those that know me, and to those that don't...
I sometimes think I will stop coming on the forum but it is the nicest place to be certainly online, and especially if you need sound advice.
I am getting ever more closer to my next hip replacement and wanted to ask you all about the super path hip replacement? Can you recommend any surgeons for this type of surgery? What was your experience?
I live in the Cotswolds in England, but will happily travel anywhere if it means a quicker recovery. I had a good surgeon last time, I am not so keen on the hospital so exploring all options (again)
At least I am not terrified this time (maybe a small tiny bit in the middle of the night) but not fearing it anywhere near as much. Can see from last time I don't have much longer left, as usual pathway to THR is an easy one to follow from beginning to end at least!
All the best to you all, and happy new hips!

We looked at this approach when we were discussing my hip replacement.
The following web site explains the benefits of it but not the downside.
[b]http://www.superpathhip.com/superpath-k-dean-olsen[b].html
Although recovery is quicker because the operation does not cut through any muscles and the leg is kept in one position there are downsides.
Access to the hip joint and femur are restricted. The surgeon has less room to maneuver and insert the prosthetics. The surgeon needs to be very skilled and use more complex equipment.
We decided against it as the long term prognosis was not as good as for that of an Anterior/ Posterior approach. I would rather have a slow recovery with a long term gain than a short term recovery with a questionable gain.
All I could say is to research all of the pros and cons as much as you can. This is your hip, not the surgeons. It has to be your decision in the end.

Hi Rose
13 weeks ago I had THR on right hip. I had posterior cement on cement and done uncemented.
Day I .......was operated on at 3pm.
Day 2.......walking with frame comfortably.
Day 3......Given crutches and sent home at 10.30am.
Apart from initial op pain have sailed through recovery. Walking unaided outside too by 6 weeks. My scar is a neat straight line 7 inch long and already healing really well.
Currently away on holiday doing normal things and swimming like a champion.
No it wasn't officially a superpath HR but my thoughts are that the method and surgeon I had would be hard to beat and is more successful long term. It sure has been an amazingly shorter journey than I expected.

I am in UK and am lucky enough to live near to the Robert Jones and Ages Hunt Orthopedic Hospital in Gobowen nr Oswestry. I had Mr Graham who is lovely and very experienced.
It is a specialist hospital and renowned worldwide apparently. They are 50% private and 50% NHS. If able to get referred to there either way I can recommend it. Although an NHS patient I felt like I was a private patient with the treatment I had by all staff.
Good luck

hello darling Rose,
I remember the roughtime you had in the hospital ... can you go to another hospital maybe?
I don't know what to tell you ... I had my 2nd THR done by the same surgeon as he did a pretty good job with the 1st one ...same hospital, same room and even same bed !!!! almost like coming home
Where are you in the process ... Have you already made an appointment to have surgery scheduled?
It is going to be a wee bit of a roller coaster - at least, that is my experience --- not afraid and almost looking forward to it interrupted by moments of sheer panic yet to be explained -
Big warm hug

I am afraid I am already at the point of needing another one. I probably have been for some time but have been putting up with it. I am not so terrified, but somehow more anxious than I thought I would be, perhaps knowing what is to come is not always a good thing....
Also the complications last time mean that I am more worried than I should be. I have just booked some counselling so I can have some strategies to overcome the worries about being in the room at night. I have quite a strong fear of being left alone....so yes trying to overcome that and do this in the right way seems to be quite challenging.
In addition I have been diagnosed with bursitis in my other hip. So my confidence is low and feeling just a bit overwhelmed if I am honest.
Big hugs to you angel Renee. Life is sent to try us. I remind myself of blessings as much as I can at the moment.

Just accept that this is how you feel right now ..no need to defend it or analyze it, it just is - when accepting what is, everything in your body relaxes - (even if it is for nano-second) -
Bursitis in other hip (old new one, right?) sucks -- I had that too but after 2nd THR - incorrect walking and over burdened ( 2 THR 6 months apart)
So interesting how things come up, right? not only the physical part of this journey, but, at least for me, very the mental and spiritual ones as well - Goodness - dark night of the soul - there is a lot of healing taking place, darling --
I am happy you decided to get some counseling -
I know that you are grateful for all your blessings, and sometimes it slips away ... no harm done, okay? so no need to beat your self up
Any chance you can go to another hospital this time? Would that help ?
Someone told me once that : when you feel overwhelmed, take a nap !!!
In loving embrace and angel blessings
