What is ankle fusion surgery like?

Posted , 3 users are following.

Hi all! I broke my ankle 4 years ago and had pins and plates fitted for 6 months in a non-weight baring cast before having them removed. Last november after no improvement 3 years on I had an ankle arthoscopy. Unfortunately it didn't do anything and i'm back in the same position! My surgeon has mentioned my next step being ankel fusion surgery!

What does this do and how long were you out for as I start university in 3 weeks and want to be able to do as much of the course as possible without taking a year off!

Thanks

Hollie

Hi hollie, has your surgeon not mentioned ankle replacement as an option instead of fusion, that was you still have good range of movement. As we're with fusion there is no movement at all.hope which ever you decide it's a success for you. Regards Wayne.

Go for an ankle replacement. with that you still have nearly full movement of the ankle.

Seems they are fobbing you off with a second class option to save time and money.

You can go back to studying in an AIRCAST boot plus

crutches in days (patial weight bearing)

    Good luck
