What is better Synergy or PanOptix?

Posted , 17 users are following.

PanOptix: Near at 40cm.

Synergy: Near at 33cm.

PanOptix: Can scratch at transplantation.

Synergy: No scratches.

PanOptix: Quadfocal so may have soft spots.

Synergy: Continuous range of vision from 33cm.

PanOptix: Better night time effects.

Synergy: If it uses EDOF design there will be exaggerated night time effects.

PanOptix: Distance is A if symfony distance is A+.

Synergy: I have noticed that some posts have said near to be a bit blurry.

What do you guys think? My right eye is GONE!

From what I've learned on this forum, if I get another Symfony IOL for the other eye, only calculated at -0.75D myopia, that could give me vision close to ~40cm (~16"). I wouldn't go down that path, because, in addition to degrading the distant vision a little, it would also worsen the dysphotopsias in that eye. Of course, the idea is to get rid of the glasses, more, it is always possible to correct the vision of an IOL with the use of glasses, both for near and far. As for your question "is the near with synergy better than panoptix near", I'm not sure I understand, since when you opened this post you already listed that:

    "PanOptix: Near to 40cm."

    "Synergy: Near to 33cm."

      "PanOptix: Near to 40cm."

      "Synergy: Near to 33cm."

that was 16 months ago. since then the average satisfaction with vision quality with panoptix appears to be higher and distance is better with panoptix.

So that's the question! The only one I saw making this unfavorable comparison for Synergy was Dr Shannon Wong! First he made a video saying that Synergy was better. Then he changed his mind, based on his experience with patients (real world). More up to him, he goes on to say that Synergy gives the best near vision (13"). And, as I've posted before, he also didn't consider the slightest loss of light and contrast from Synergy. I looked a lot if anyone else (besides Alcon ) also considers PanOptix better, but I haven't found it...All tests, trials, reports choose Synergy better than PanOptix. The account doesn't close! This makes me confused...

i had compiled a list in one of the posts on summarizing synergy experiences in this forum and it had majority unhappy. i dont know how to search for it.

Yes, I think I read your list some time ago, I would even like to read it again! Now, to be fair, have you also compiled another one with unhappy experiences with PanOptix to compare?

i found it. panoptix unhappy patients were very few. i was compiling this because i was in the synergy boat like you waiting for it to be available in the US.

here is a compilation of all synergy results:

nivo14 - happy initially. now not happy. yag done but not happy.

peterferri - bad distance. good near.

lynne948 and her husband - both regretting

      vladimir3 - regrets

dnat1974 - good distance and near.

chris53317 - struggling with facial recognition at distance.

daljeet83 - bad distance. good near.

michael54321 - near is great. distance and intermediate not so good.

torontonian - amazing near. distance not perfect but good enough

Yes, it is easy to correct a monofocal IOL with eyeglasses. But if you want to correct a MF IOL then it may not be so easy.
