What is causing my urinary retention??

Hi I am 20 years old and am struggling with many urinary symptoms. I am currently having to self catheterise after going into sudden retention about 2 months ago, and was rushed into hopsital with over a litre in my bladder. I then had a catheter for 3 weeks. I have recieved my results for an ultrasound and an MRI on my spine which have both come back normal. I am now experiencing a very painful burning sensation when i have finished peeing and also been having what feels like period pain in my lower abdomen, whihc my GP has prescribed antibiotics as she thinks its a UTI. My urologist has now said that there is no treatment and that he doesnt want to do any more tests but...I am still having prolems. It feels like they are giving up on me ut they dont have to live with it...I DO. If anyone can give me an indication as to why this is happening i would be so grateful. Thanks

    I have replied before, but I guess my reply did not register.

    It sounds like a very bad infection.  You tried an antibiotic without success.

    I know that many antibiotics are ineffective.  Since I am not a doctor but

    speaking from experience, may I suggest Levoflexacin.  This is a broad

    spectrum antibiotic, which did wonders for me.  The cash price in the USA is rather high ($15 a tablet),  and you might need several weeks. but it requires only one pill a day.  If it cures you, it would be worth the money.

      Hi Kenneth, I was put on a week of antibiotics. The GP gave me these before testing my urine for a UTI results have now come back negative for a UTI. And still getting the pain.

      Hi Rebecca,  First observation is: taking the antibiotics before the UTI test was not a good thing.  A week's treatment might have reduced any bacteria to the point that it did not show up in the test.  I would not rule out a UTI.  Second, if it isn't an infection then it could be inflammation from something you are ingesting.  Something like spices in your food or other drugs (legal or not).  But something has to be irritating the walls of your bladder and urethra.  Oh! for that doctor to tell you to just live with it, I would find a different urologist.  Have you explored other medical advice websites?   Good luck.

      Hi Kenneth, I gave the urine sample before i started the course of antibiotics. So deof not a UTI. i will find another urologist as i am definitly

      not satified with his advice.

    Urologists are in their own world, lol. Did they prescribe any long term medications? What is their long term goals in terms of catheterization needs? For example have they said about an indwelling catheterization?

      Hi Pam, Yeah they seem to be. No medication at all. MRI and ultrasound has come back clear so urologist has said that there is no treatement and he doesnt want to do anymore tests. He has just told me that i need to keep catheterising myself and itmight go away. It feels like they have given up. UTI results came back negative so no uti.
