What is Citalopram recovery like?

Hi all,

I'm on day 31 of taking 20mg Citalopram for Health Anxiety, and currently struggling a bit as I just dont see the light at the end of the tunnel at the moment.

When I started taking it, I felt like I had a couple of days where I felt better, then everything got a whole lot worse with intense panic attacks which have thankfully stopped. Now apart from the odd short moment where I think I feel better I just dont feel good at all and am convinced its something physical causing the pains.

When you read the guidance it makes it sound like after 2 weeks you will begin to notice some difference and by weeks 4-6 you will begin to get the full therapeutic benefit - but thats just not happening for me at the moment.

Any guidance would be appreciated

    Hi there!

So sorry you're feeling crummy. But everything you are feeling is totally normal. Those odd short moments you mentioned where you feel better are actually very important - these will build into longer moments over time. Unfortunately, the standard '4-6 weeks' they say you'll feel better by doesn't happen for some people. You may be someone it does happen for! But, don't freak out if not. These meds can take a decent amount of time to build in the system, and sometimes you have to up your dose to get a more consistent therapeutic effect. I know that can sound intimidating for how bad you probably feel, but the longer you're on the med the more progress you will see. It may be slow, it can also be sudden. Either way, don't lose hope! You will get to the other side of this. 😃
