What is happening to my voice?

I am 25 years old. Recently I've been having problems with my voice. My voice tends to squeak and creak and sometimes just disappear when I'm out of breath, tired, or in a stressful situation i.e angry or upset or nervous. This has started happening only recently making it very difficult for me to communicate. For a long period of time i thought it was a bad throat but the problem continues. I do smoke but not a lot, the frequency is around 3-4 each day. Why is this happening? What do I do?

Its fairly normal for a loss of voice due to stress or anxiety. You may need to see your GP if in UK who can send you to an ENT specialist at first and possibly a speech therapist. The real problem however may be to lessen the stress you are experiencing. You may need some talking therapy.

Can you pinpoint the triggers when you experience this? Are you going through an emotional time...death of someone close , break up with partner, moving house, new job etc etc?
