What is oxygen therapy?

Hi I've heard this term in many discussions and articles but I'm not sure exactly what it means?  Is this 24 hr oxygen ie carrying an oxygen tank or is it only at night as an example.  I don't want to upset anyone by asking this.  But would like some clarification and can't seem to find it with a google search.  Thanks ~Marcus

    Hi

oxygen therapy is to make sure you major organs receive adequate oxygen.

ther are three types of oxygen therapy

Long Term Oxygen Theraphy LTOT. This is usually for 15 or more hours per day at rest. Test for this is Aterial Blood Gasses ABG Test.

Ambulatory Oxgen Therapy. This is for oxygen desaturation when walking or during exercise. Test for this is a six minute walk test.

The Third rarely used is Short Burst Oxygen Therapy, SBOT sometimes used used for twenty minutes after a period of exercise.

not every one requires oxygen therapy.if you are a CO2 Retainer and require oxygen theraphy then you have to closely monitored.

I use Ambulitory oxygen at 4lpm for walking and exercising, not required during periods of rest.
