What is the best Anxiety Medication for vestiBulan weakness?

Posted , 7 users are following.

Looking to start an anxiety medication due to my vestibular weakness on my right side. Its been much better since a month ago but some days I feel more off than others and my anxiety level rises. I want to start an anxiety medication that will make me feel like it's okay that I'm off or dizzy....

Could you clarify what you mean by a vestibular weakness on your right side? What diagnosis did you receive, and from which medical specialty?

    Eleftherios S. Papathanasiou, PhD, FEAN

    Clinical Neurophysiologist

Fellow of the European Academy of Neurology

He called it a left sided caloric reduction implying that there has been some loss of vestibular function on that side. He is a Professor of Otolaryngology, Staff Neurotologist.

Other than medication are you doing anything else for the vestibular weakness?

Right now I'm not taking any medication. I'm doing Vestibular physical therapy and acupuncture and hollestic psychotherapy. I also started taking a bunch of Vitamins that I heard help brain and dizziness, i.e., magnesium, ginkgo, vitamin d, ginger and B12..

I was having a bunch of good days since starting this but today was a bad day...I've been very spacey today. Hard to do anything today but I'm pushing through.

I'm sorry to hear that about today, but I thi k it is awesome that at least you have a diagnosis and are working on it, I am going to be starting acupuncture soon and wondered if it would really help--- I have nothing to lose so I'm going to go for it

Well the ENT THINK it started as Vestibular Neuronitis due to my symptoms but I don't know..I don't think they know much about the inner ear workings and its all a guessing and wait and see game.

I only went to one session of acupuncture, it really helped with my anxiety so I can't wait to go back Friday. I think anything that calms you down during thsee types of Vestibular issues can't ever hurt. Any recommendations you have for me please feel free to share smile

An article I read said to ask your PT or Neurologist about trigger points in the upper back and neck so that's what I'm going to do :-)

You just have to keep researching and learning as mich as you can. Imhad anewsletter from  Veda thisnweek (if you haven't checked them out you should)they  have something about Dizziness, Imbalance,,Vision, which is being researched and They Have a questionnaire to fill out.  Just Go on lone and enter Veda (vestibular disorders Association), register for the newsletter.  They Also have a lot of info on all the different kinds, causes of dizziness etc. (Dont join as a member as that costs and you dont need it for info).they also have a FB page.

Yup I'm friends with them on FB. Luckily I don't have any vision issues and I never feel like I'm gonna fall over. Just fizzy sometimes and feel off..Not myself. Some of the vestibular exercises are helping..but days like today where my anxiety is higher and my head feels heavier gives me less hope. I'm only 39..I don't want to live with this. Hopefully be catching this in the first month and doing my exercises and going to the ent will help? Guess well see.

I think I have morning anxiety...I think that's why I wake up feeling like I can feel all the nerves in my body. Anyone experience that?

I don't have vision issues as such, but because the eyes have to work inconjunction  with the ears and vestibular system. I notice that the more i do through the day i can kind of feel my eyes arent helping and need to,close them For a while.m Not Sure if its cos they are overworking or what!

      Hi Stacy

I read your post about morning anxiety, i have it everyday, I wake up with my heart beating fast and hard and I can feel my nerves thru my body which causes my muscles in my legs and arms to feel tight and shake at times.  I have health anxiety so i"m having quite a hard time with this dizzy thing.  I worry about it constantly and look for answers all the time, but finding any real help has been hard.

You mentioned you aren't taking any meds either, I don't take any.  They want me to try nortriptyline and I'm just so afraid of it.  I want to feel better but I can't make myself take the meds.  I do have xanax for anxiety when I absolutely need it, but I dont' take it a lot coz of the addiction factor involved.  I'm doing VRT and its seems to be helping according to my VRT therapist and my chiropractor, but I feel dizzy and off balance a lot so I don't see it.

I think my anxiety is hampering everything for me, and i know i need the meds but I can't, I know it sounds stupid to most people but I've tried so many meds in the past for anxiety and had such bad effects that I can't get there.  I'm really hoping my psychologist can help but that takes time to.

I hope your well and finding so relief.

      Hi Patty,

Well I actually started taking meds, Wellbutrin, I have to say I think my anxiety is getting better. I thought my doc was crazy when he said my anxiety is feeding into my disorder but I think it's def 50% of it. I started acupuncture and seeing a therapist and its helped a lot!!!! I realized also that I was pushing my recovery... trying to do more VRT excersies then was given to me which made me too dizzy... so I only do exactly what my PT tells me... I don't try to walk a mile anymore just around small stores... this is not a disorder that the recovery can be pushed. I'm in week 7 and I do see a difference from a month ago.. slow but at least I'm not dizzy 24/7 anymore. And yes you have to calm your anxiety or you'll stay at a plateau I've learned. I bought a book called Feeling Good by David Burns and it teaches you anxiety tools.. at first I laughed at it but it really does help!!!

I had VN for 4 months. I started taking Ciprolex 2 weeks in because my anxiety was out of control making my dizzies worse. It has helped so much even though i saw a psychotherapist and did meditation.
