What is the latest way to diagnose Fibromyalgia

Posted , 5 users are following.

Having had this debilitating problem for over 8 years my diagnosis was based on the definitive  pressure points on ones back . How do they diagnose it now. Through blood tests plus discussing all the symptoms of lack of sleep, pins and needles!!

When I was diagnosed it was a process of elimination, blood test after blood test to rule out lupus, thyroid, etc. until there was nothing left. I think I had an easier time of it too because all the women in my family have it except my youngest sister so there was already a diagnosis for both of my grandmothers, my mother, my 2 aunts and 1 of my cousins.

I imagine if I had been the first in my family to have it then they probably would have sent me to specialists after the tests came back clean before being willing to diagnose me.

I have read on several of the discussions on this forum that there is a pain pressure test which I imagine may be similar to yours except it's not all on the back. I don't know the number but you have to react to a certain number of the pain areas to be considered fibro. Not sure if it's the 'latest' though.

Thanks  manda for your reply . I had no idea it is hereditary?

To be clear, it's not proven to be hereditary.

However, I am not the only one with a family of people with fibro so I don't think it can be discounted.

Of course, when you are related you are more likely to have similar chemical balances, thyroid issues, etc. so I'm sure one day they will have an answer. Personally, I feel it is. The only living female in my immediate family who does'nt have it is my youngest sister but she has Graves disease which no one else in the family has so there's that.

Get referred to a rheuamtologist.  Although Drs will need to rule out other diagnosis first. Take care, and hope you get your answers soon.  wink xx

Hi there, for me diagnosis has been heaps and heaps of blood tests, Mri scans, ultrasounds and cat scans! It's been the ruematologist that actually made the diagnosis, but it has been a long haul I am sorry to say!

I have a daughter who has fibro too, but I am adopted and don't know any of medical history to know if it runs in family!

Have great weekend , thoughts n hugs
