What is the your opinion of the best treatment after MUA-"aggressive pt" or gentle stretching?

I had MUA 5 days ago. My dr. prescribed aggressive ROM therapy 3 times a week for 3 weeks. I went to therapy the next day, and my ROM had decreased from 102 to 98, and this was only after heat therapy and the electrical stimulation (not sure what it's called). I have more swelling, so I know I will not be able to get more ROM until the swelling goes down. Should I tell my therapist I don't want to be pushed to the point of pain? I have heard that this will only create more scar tissue. For 3 weeks after my MUA, I had a therapist at home who really pushed and put me in so much pain that my knee swelled even more. I would like to know your opinions

On what I should do.

Thanks,

Betty

Well obviously you shouldn't carry on if there's that much swelling - I would have thought gentle exercise would be more therapeutic- my knee was really swollen the other day when I saw the physio and she didn't do any work with me only the tens machine

I'm four weeks last Saturday now and it's like one step forward two steps back as regards pain and swelling.

Hi Mary, is the tens machine what I was referring to as electrical machine with the stickers they put on you? I had never had that until the day after the MUA. My therapist said it was supposed to wake up the quad muscle. Is that true?

It does stimulate.  I bought myself a handheld one for about £35.

I just walked every day, to be honest.  It was such a relief to be able to get my foot flat on the floor again.

    Hi Betty,

I never had an MUA (apart from the one I accidentally gave myself!sad) But I found that aggressive PT did not work for me. No Pain, no gain was my motto. Only when I pulled back and started a more gentle routine, after advise on this forum, did I really start to improve.  It worked for me.  I think your body is trying to tell you the same thing.  Pull back take a rest and start again.  See how it goes for you.

    Best wishes
