So I've been getting this itchy feeling on the outside of my vagina it's so hard not to scratch but when I do it tears, getting white discharge the only time there's comfort and no itching is when I'm on my period then it will start again once I'm done. I've gone to the dr in October and she told me it was a yeast infection so she prescribed me 1 pill but I don't think me and my husband gave it time because we had sex 2 days after and a week later it came back again. But before the yeast infection we had went in a swimming pool I was on my period buy very lite and had a tampon on and ever since that time my vagina has been on and off itchy and I feel even my clit has shrunk! No blisters or ulcers nothing like that just white disharge and very very itchy and very painful to have sex, anyone else struggling with this plz help I'm only 22 years old so I know it isn't MP. Also my vagina tears easy too and feels really dry!

Hi April, you poor love. I'm no medic but that's not simply a yeast infection. I had the same thing thing for over a year and was beings treated for thrush. I actually had LS ! Go back to you Dr and ask to be referred to a gynaecologist or dermatologist. Don't take no for an answer. In the meantime do not use soap in that area only water or I use AVEENO shower gel which was recommended by dermatologist. Also you need to wash after every wee coz urine irritates the skin . Get some HYDROMOL ointment as use as a barrier cream. I know this is a big ask as you are young but if you can avoid penetrative sex until the skin had recovered a bit it would be best . If you continue to have seeds then use lots of lubrication. If you do have LS our LP then you need steroid cream asap to recover. good luck, let me know how you get on.

Hi April. Well it could be Thrush, but the tearing does sound like it may be LS, you need to go back to your GP and describe all the symptoms thoroughly, mention lichen sclerosis and hopefully they'll refer you to a dermatologist just to rule things out. Although again it may just be thrush or some other thing. Anyway go back to your GP and find out. Xx

Hi April, unfortunately it does sound like Lichen Sclerosus.  The white discharge occurs for some women when they are flaring, (doctors confuse this with thrush), hence the itching, soreness etc.  Many doctors, even specialists aren't that well informed with regard to this condition, and so ideally a Vulva Clinic is your best place to go to for advice from doctors that recognise and know Lichen Sclerosus.

Many women avoid swimming, especially when flaring, and wearing a tampon has probably exacerbated the problem as it would have soaked up the chlorine from the pool. This is one condition that you have to become informed about, and so I would advise reading as much as you can on the subject.  Meanwhile, I would spray your undercarriage with a little salt water after using the bathroom as that helps stop any itching afterwards, and then use a little oil down there to keep things lubricated, something like coconut oil, or emu oil works well.
