Well I dont know what school the doctor went to. But antibiotics against herpes? Hmm..

Antibiotics works on most bacteria except a few that are called super bugs which are resistant against most antibioticum. Since herpes is a virus and it usually called a oportunistic virus which means that it will attack when you are feeling down or your defenses are low. Which will begin the outbreak.

Virus replikates it self with help of living cells. Since its not living its not part of the "bio" in anti-Bio-tica which means it that antibiotica wont bother them. However there is some treatment, for example Valaciclovir that will indeed help against virus and the way it works is that it will interrupt the virus RNA/DNA stage in the replikation process. There is a small chance even then for the virus to mutate and become immune to medicin but with some tweaking you can change the attack strategy and attack the virus in another stage, earlier or later... Depending on the mutation.

So to sum it up. Its all in your head if you think antibiotics is helping. Furthermore, you are actually causing your body and its normal bacteria flora to be affected. Which then can cause other bacteria to also be oppurtinistic and cause other illness and in worst case scenario, sepsis. I recommend you stop with the antibiotica and let it heal by itself or treat the symptoms and not the disease.
