What is this dry flaky white and red spot on my penis?

Posted , 11 users are following.

I noticed this spot appearing a few weeks ago after i scraped off some dry skin on the shaft of my penis. The spot has expanded in size since then as I've scraped off more dry skin with the outside more red and the inside more white. It doesn't hurt or itch. It's not an STD as I'm a virgin. I almost never use soap on my penis as it would dry it out, I just use water. Is this just dry skin or something else? Why did it heal as a discolored white spot? Thanks.imageimageimage

when your skin is damaged it can cause this type of discoloration. especially when your skin is darker colored. it may be a very slight case of psoriasis so just moisturize it for a couple of weeks and it should start to heal up quickly. if not you may need medication. has this occured on your glans at all? have you been itching it frequently? do you use and sort of products on your penis at all?

It's only on that one spot, nothing on the glans. It doesn't itch so i haven't itched it, but I've scraped off the dry flaky skin. I don't use any products on my penis.

Tangki, what would you recommend as a moisturiser - as a Lichen Sclerosis sufferer I have to avoid anything that is petroleum oil based, ruling out regular skin creams and ointments and moisturisers. So this is what I recommend to others too with penile skin issues.

I prefer plant based extracts, such as Aloe Vera Gel (the purer the better) and Coconut Oil - but is there anything else that is 'safe' that you can suggest?

dont scrape any skin off as this can cause permanent damage like discoloration or scarring. keep an unscented moisturizer on it, try not to do anything to stress the skin out and wash your hands before you apply the moisturizer and before you clean yourself- this will help. you can clean the wound gently after it's been wet for a bit and try to slowly roll the dead skin away. hope this helps!

I usually stick to coconut oil and other natural moisturizers but I've had a patient recently come in and say hes been using terrasil and hes never felt better. there's many different products under terrasil so I'd have to study up on it and see what it actually is before I recommend it but it really seemed to help him!

I've been applying petroleum jelly/vaseline for the past day. Is that an adequate moisturizer to use?

petroleum jelly/ vaseline is more to prevent skin from healing together. you should use something unscented like coconut oil, aloe vera, hand moisturizers. the jelly you are using will accumulate moisture underneath it just acts like a shield whereas actual moisturizers penetrate the skin to bring it hydration.

if you have unfiltered honey you can use that as long as you out a bandage over it(prevent honey from sticking to your leg or pants )- people have used honey since before the bible for wounds as it is essentially an antibiotic and an antioxidant, but coconut oil works the best for my skin

Sorry for the late reply. No, I no longer have those spots. They went away a few months after the original post. Moisturizer did seem to help.

It usually happens when you sweat a lot or don't wash your genital area well enough. The most common symptoms are red spots or a rash in your genital area. Your skin may also appear dry, scaly, or flaky.

    Hi,

Currently I am noticing a patch exactly similar to yours even in size. I scraped off some dry skin as you did and now it seems to grow in size. Could you please tell me if you ever found out what it is and how you cured it?

    Thanks.

If you do not get a reply try starting your own Forum Post and post photos clearly showing the problem ...

Sorry for the late reply. It went away a few months after the original post. I still don't exactly know what caused it or what it was. A doctor suspected it might have been caused by a hair loss treatment I used but I can't be sure. The main thing that helped was Moisturizer and Time.
