What's the chance my infection will return

Posted , 3 users are following.

After several hip replacements/revisions etc on my right hip I got an infection. I was treated with vancomycin iv in hospital then a high dose of oral Rifampicin an a high dose of Ciprofloxacin for 3 months I gave about a week to go before they end. I am concerned the infection will take control again because they were only suppressing it and will need a 2stage revision to get rid completely. Is it likely to flare up when thes antibiotics stop if so any idea how quick this sort of thing happens.

devastated to read of all the events you have been through and I recall with horror the history of the infection which was left far too.long at the outset.

sometimes alternatives to antibiotics and their devastating consequences can be effective. Have you considered taking an opinion of a naturopath who can also be gp trained. they are doing Intravenous hydrogen peroxide with published results. I know that's what I would be doing. I have used it for decades for ENT infections by syringe in the ear canal in low concentration. Do you know anyone who can research this for you. Sometimes we are driven to other solutions when antibiotics are of no use once we have built up resistance. I hope you will be strong enough to think beyond antibiotics. And I.hope your system has the resources to.fight whatever comes along. everyone will be with you on this one. too too terrible

Thanks I will certainly look into it. Anything has to be better like you say relying on antibiotics isn't a good thing and I'm already investigating other preventative things. The hospital said we need to wait and see regarding it flaring up again but for me that seems like an accident waiting to happen. Thanks again for the adviceΒ

      Hi Snape,

I too agree with Gentilleschi, look for alternative and complimentary medicines. There is a forum on this site with that title and suggest you post there also because there are people who have a wealth of information, in particular a person named Joy with whom I am familiar.

During my joint class last week in preparation for my revision I asked about the procedure for infection because I had read your story and never heard of what you are going through. In between the two part surgery, they insert into your hip joint area something that has antibiotics in it and it stays there for a period of time?

I too have had to take the very same antibiotics you have and they took a toll on me. I was on the vancomycin twice last year and part of this year, once for a week intravenously and another for six weeks by mouth, and was told that it is the strongest there is. What worries me the most is that it will not work for me anymore in the future because of taking it so much.

The other forum will help you learn how to strengthen your immune system via natural ways.

I so wish you the best and hope your grueling procedure takes care of the infection. My prayers are with you Shape.

      Keep us posted ok?

Depends what bug is causing the infection.

If it's MERSA.at this point there is no cure to eradicate it with medicine only suppressed it.

In U.S.there is research that is promising going in with mice. It will be a while before it's used on humans.
