What's wrong with me!

3 yrs ago I started getting pain in my shoulder blade (left)

docs said it was just a strain and gave me some tablets and said carry on.  3 months later I went back and said its getting worse, so he sent me for an mri.  This showed that I have prolapsed discs c6/c7, he gave me gabapentine and said carry on!

I carried on working as a cashier and the pain just gradually got worse, I went back again and again he just upped the dose of gabapentine and told to carry on. This went on for 12 months when eventually he sent to see an orthopaedic service. I had another Mir and was told that the prolapse was worse and he sent me for an urgent referral to see a neurosurgeon. That was 7 months ago and I'm still waiting for that!!!  There's been 1 report sent from the doc and 1 report sent from the orthopaedic service and 20 or more calls to the hospital to get an app but nothing!!

While ive been waiting I've also had an mri of my left shoulder and lower back ( different doctor ) because of pain, I've now found out I've got a frozen shoulder (left side) and a L6 prolapsed disc pressing on the root nerve ( right side )  The pain from it all is gettin unbearable, I'm taking 150mg of lyrica 2x daily

20mg of morphine 2x daily

1000mg of naproxen

25mg of amertriptayline  ( sorry if spelling is wrong )

ive had 3 injections in my shoulder which haven't worked

1 injection in my right hip and knee which haven't worked and

1 facet joint injection in my lower back right side! And nothing I'm still in pain!!

Cant put my full weight on my right foot I'm having to tip toe to walk. I've been given crutches but with my frozen shoulder I'm finding it difficult to walk still, at my last app with the doc he said that when I get to see the neurosurgeon to tell him that I've got prolapsed discs in my neck and lower back and that he thinks there maybe a problem with my discs!!!!!

I have no idea what's going on with my spine, what's wrong with my discs???

If anybody can help me it would be much appreciated

thank you smile

I would find another neurosurgeon ASAP. At this point I would certainly be jscreeming and jumping up and down for an appointment. We can't expect others to take care of it. We must be our own best advocate.

Hello, I have been through this at L5-S1 and had 2 surgeries. More nerve pain now, maybe scar tissue irritation. I was an X-Ray Tech for 5 years, ran the C-arm in many neck and spine surgeries, fusions, scoliosis, etc. 1 or 2 surgeons out of 10 are not competant to be surgeons, another 4 are real jerks, the other 4 are good, the ones you want, so that leaves all of us with a 40% chance.

You need a new batch of doctors. You need a primary that cares, and get referred to a good neurosurgeon. Ask people you know to recommend some, or people they know may know someone. Keep looking, use the interner to search in your area also. Many have made videos on their websites, see how they strike you. Most important, be your own advocate. Keep calling on things, keep checking, don't expect anyone to do what they say, and by the time they say it. You have nothing better to do while hurting. Start a notebook to record everything, take it along to your appointments. You can ask for the disc and the read of your MRI, it's free, they have to give it to you. The injections do not seem to work for anyone, at best they give some limited relief. Sounds like you have disc problems at several areas, will need work at those levels, depending on your age, health and specific condition. Could be fusion with a bone graft or implant. This is the job of the surgeon. You will feel a victim of the system, you will feel alone and detached. Just keep going, you will get thru it and be able to look back. Fighting my own battle again myself.

Thank you all for your replying. Appreciate your help.

I've had physio on my neck and shoulder to no avail. In the end the physio wouldn't do any more cause it hurt to much ( not a whip had 3 natural births!)

And the same for my back, when they were trying to see were the pain in my hip was coming from they did physio and my back was is bits. That's when they discovered it was my back and not my hip. Had mild back ache for yrs on and off but only had a niggling back ache for 6 weeks before so I have no idea how it happened.

And as for demanding to see the surgeon I make calls 2 times a week. My go has sent 3 reports and my com ortho has sent 2 and still no app. My nearest other surgeon is 50 miles away and I can't travel that far. There's a few of them at my hospital but I've been put on my surgeon list and that's were I'm staying. I can't afford to ask for another surgeon to be put back on there list and then the waits much longer

    Thank you
