What's wrong with me? Fatigue/headaches/elevated heart rate.

Hi there,

Basically, for the past couple years I have felt unwell pretty much all of the time, with the following symptoms (probably more, but these are the main things):

Headaches, sometimes so severe that they lead to vomiting. They tend to last for a really long time and don't often improve with paracetamol.

Pretty intense body aches that seem to have no obvious cause (i.e. from exercise) and leave me pretty much bed-bound all day.

'Hot flashes' where I literally become drenched in sweat and feel very lightheaded.

Increased heart rate (usually 65-75bpm resting, but has been up to 126bpm so far and thats's while resting) that usually lasts about 30 minutes at a time but has persisted for upwards of 3 hours before. It makes me feel very nauseous and on a couple occasions I have vomited.

Sometimes the tiniest amount of exertion, even just taking the bins out, makes me sweaty, dizzy and breathless. This often happens when I'm walking and makes me feel really lightheaded.

I generally feel exhausted most of the time. I don't tend to sleep well which makes it worse, but even when I'm well-rested I physically feel exhausted and need to nap during the day.

Of course, I have visited my GP about this but thus far they haven't been able to figure out what it is (and honestly, they don't seem to care). All bloods have came back fine except for my levels of alkaline phosphatase and albumin in my liver, which are elevated (though not extraordinarily) and appear to be increasing. My doctor doesn't seem very concerned about this, as my levels of vitamin D etc. are all very good so it doesn't look deficiency related. My doctor really doesn't seem concerned at all, but I'm struggling feeling ill so much of the time, and at 20 years old I don't think this is normal.

Just wanted to know if a anyone has any ideas about my symptoms, or if anyone has experienced anything similar.

Thanks!

Just a couple other pieces of information.

I believe I have a pretty healthy diet, and all my blood work shows that my nutritional levels are average or above average. My weight is perfectly within the average range for my height, my BMI is 21 so that's not an issue. It seems I'm the healthiest I've ever been but I'm still feeling awful 😣

    Hi Anni,

Appreciate you're looking for answers here but, I 'm going to ask is there any chance of seeing a different doctor? Your concerns are real and it sounds like you feel the doctor you have isn't interested? If it's a GP practice in the UK you can see another doctor usually.

I ''ve got a condition called CFS/me and I have some of the issues you have as well as other ones. Was there any trigger to feeling unwell two years ago that you can remember? You could Google the symptoms of CFS/me and see if you feel they fit with you. There is also a condition called POTS that causes heart racing and you may wish to Google that also.

    I hope this helps

Beverley, I am experiencing pretty much the same symptoms as the orignal poster. How long have you had CFS/me? I did some research on the condition and feel that I fit it to a tee.

How do I go about talking to my doctor about this? And what kinds of treatment could I follow to improve the quality of my life?

      Hi there,

I've had the condition since October 2012. Mine was from a car collision and it was quite a while before my symptoms were seen as CFS/me. A friend of mine had a doctor who was more savvy with the condition and was told they had post viral syndrome first. As they started to be investigated for CFS/me and many of our symptoms were similar, I brought it up with my GP who said they were happy to investigate this in my case.

If you have a similar GP and are in the UK, you will first need to have blood tests to rule out other causes then you can be referred to a specialist service for people with CFS/me. Resting and pacing are what helps most people and if you are referred, you will be helped to develop this.

I realise I replied to your own post but wanted to answer the questions here too.

i would ask for an emg to check your muscles incase of a myopathy, if you have a muscle problem your headaches could be related to your sternocleidomastoid and you should look up ways to relax it and try them next time you have a headache and see if it helps.
