What side effects can I expect from propranolol hydrochloride 80mg?

Hi all!
A couple of days ago I was prescribed propranolol hydrochloride 80mg due to the fact that my body produces too much adrenaline - even when I'm stationary. This causes my heart to palpitate erratically, causes me chest pains, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, light headedness etc.
I am on one tablet a day and today will be my second tablet. I have read the leaflet including the side effects but I also find it useful to speak to people who take or have taken the medication as they have first hand experience of course.
So what side effects did you experience and to what severity? I've heard nightmare and night terrors including hallucinations are a big one which terrifies me as I already have a phobia of the dark!
Thank you very much

On the whole, propranolol hydrochlorid has been a very helpful medication for me. I take only 20mg at bedtime for control of migraine, high blood pressure, and undiagnosed heart palpitations. This low dose has controlled all three problems.
The side effect I have, only occasionally, are night visions. They are common for people who take this medication. In fact, many of the visions are even the same between many different people. I was quite alarmed at first, because I did not know the visions were caused by the medication. My doctor even said it was not possible (unbelievable). Then I found this website and was instantly relieved!
I can handle the visions because when I notice I am having one, I quickly close my eyes and just go back to sleep. I understand they are not real and cannot hurt me. So, if you have a good response to this medication, I would try to work through any visions you experience.
Blessings to you.

Thank you so much for replying!
I can actually believe the score telling you that because they're flipping useless sometimes haha!
The visions are the things that worry me the most as I've heard some people hallucinate feelings such as a mouse scurrying under their sheets!
Thank you for your reply, it's really nice to hear from someone in a similar situation! The medication is definitely working fab for me so hopefully I can put up with nightmares for a while haha!

Ahh that's not too bad. So they probably affect everyone's dreams but don't necessary give you nightmares or hallucinations! I guess it depends on each individual person!
I have to agree with you though that they are fantastic at what they're designed to do they really do work miracles!
I'll reply to the thread with any side effects I have so you know a bit more about what could happen! Like you say though your reaction probably won't change much maybe just intensify a bit?
Thanks again!

And ye, think that's kind of rule of thumb with all medication, it really does depend on the individual and not the medication.
Anyway let me know how it goes and I'll do the same, fingers crossed.

12 months on and my body hits me with what I can only describe as the dreaded fear that I am going to pass out and my legs start shacking and the muscle pain around my rib cage is sore. Mentally I pull my self out of it within a very long 10-20 minute attack. However the pain in my chest area can be with me for days.
My Gp prescribed me these at 8.30 Monday morning and promised me they would do the trick, I was concerned with the thought of taking beta blockers as I thought they were only for old people that have had heart attackes!!! However within two hours of taking them I was back to my old self running around with my 5 year old girl and doing the gardening.
This one tablet wiped out the previous 12 months of anguish and muscle pain. I know it's early days (2 days) but so far for me these tablets are fantastic. Got to say though my first nights sleep was a bit weird and very restless, let's see what tonight brings on.......
