What thyroid tests CAN’T the GP do?

Posted , 1 user is following.

Hello, I'm new here and have a lot of mild health issues which i wont go into depth right now.

Basically, a LOT of people who either have thyroid illness or have a partner/family member who does, tell me that my symptoms all match theirs. I have looked online and can confirm i do match these. However, over the years my blood tests with my GP surgery have apparently always come back fine. The docs have said they have tested all my thyroid functions.

The thing is, the people i know with hyper/hypothyroid have said that they had the GP tell them it was all fine until they were referred and had blood work in hospital, and then were diagnosed with the illness.

So, are there tests which the GP cannot do? Or maybe do these things often need a specialist/consultant to diagnose?

Also, if relevant, there is a history of thyroid cancer in my family.

Thank you.
