What time of day do you take Citalopram and why?

Just wondering what time people take it and why. I want to avoid the tiredness of taking it first thing but also want to avoid sleeplessness! Am starting 20mg tomorrow (again)!

Does it disrupt your sleep Neil? How long have you been taking it for if you don't mind me asking?

However it does give some people insomnia so it could go either way. I would also never take it on an empty stomach when starting as nausea is a common side effect...lessened by having food in you beforehand.
This is merely my experience...it cld be different for you.

I take mine around 9p.m.
When I was first prescribed Citalopram my doctor advised taking it at bedtime to help minimize side effects and taking it at 9p.m. works well for my own personal schedule. By 10p.m. the drowsiness sets in and I'm off to dreamland unless I find something to keep me stimulated enough to stay awake a bit longer. I will then generally sleep until around 4:30a.m. and then wake up. Sometimes I am able to go back to sleep sometimes not.
