What to culture for prostate/epididymis infection?

Posted , 5 users are following.

Seeing another urologist next week for second opinion on recent pirads level 3 - biopsy options. Psa jumped from 3.5 to 9.5 in last six months too. Was 6.5 a year ago. Last year have had level 6-7 pain in prostate/epididymis too. Have been urine cultured for ' normal' bugs. Requested Lyme and STD tests too. Also had urine culture after half hearted prostate massage. All normal. Am going to request semen analysis next week. Are there any weird or rare bugs that I should make a point of being tested for too? Or any other blood or urine tests for rare or uncommon issues? I don't know that the pain and pi-rads/PSA/testerone are related, but I'm at the end of my rope with the pain. Testerone was finally checked six months ago and was<300. Taking 200mg shots biweekly for that. Any advice? Thanks

Where do you live? Who and the hell gives soem one Testastrone with a high PSA? That is like putting gas on a fire. What kind of doctor do you see?

60 year old white male 6'3" 250 lbs. PSA was 6.5 a year ago, 3.5 six months ago, and 9.5 three weeks ago. Six months ago testerone was 270 so started injections. Urologist never stated testerone injections were inappropriate for rising PSA. Thanks for the heads up, I will ask the urologist I'm seeing Tuesday for a second opinion on need and type of biopsy options for the pi-rads level 3 diagnosed two weeks ago. This is why I posted, to maybe learn from others kind enough to share their knowledge and experiences.

My general doctor has a prostate issue as well as I. He said to me  . When he got his PSA tests back, his testosterone level was very high. He said he needs to get the level back to as low as possible.

He said, when you are 20 - 40 years old, a high testosterone may act as a barrier for PCa. But, when you are 40+, testosterone declines and about this time, some men develop PCa for what ever reason. However, should we then take testosterone again to build the level back up to that of our younger days, testosterone will now have have an opposite effect on the PCa and now facilitate its growth. So, keeping it low is essential. He also mentioned a healthy prostate has high levels of zinc. But, when a person has PCa, the levels of zinc in the prostate are usually low. I am now taking a zinc supplement.
