What to expect after posterior repair?

Posted , 7 users are following.

Hello, I am 4 days post-op for posterior repair. Surgery went well but I feel lost as to what to expect now. I feel very swollen and very sore. I feel like I cant walk normally. I came home the day of surgery and have been up and about but rest as well when needed. I am wondering if anyone has any advice. I don't go back to see the surgeon until Nov 5th. Thanks in advanced.

Is your pain sorted Kristina? I had post-op infection 2-3 weeks post posterior repair back in May and it felt like I had a scalpel inside me. Antibiotics cleared it up but it set me back to square 1 with my recovery. Thankfully I had greatly improved 6 weeks post op. Hope you're getting sorted.

      hello,

I saw my surgeon this past Tuesday. he said everything looked good. The antibiotics seem to be clearing up the infection. I go back and see him in two more weeks. Still feel like I’m not walking properly. My surgeon has only written me off work for four weeks in total. Hopefully by then I should be ready to go back to work. I’m on my feet all day I work in a hospital.

      hello

I'd suggest you try and take a couple more weeks off. yiur healing tissues will be still swollen and standing all day will put lots of pressure on them.

      see what your consultant says.

      Hi welshgirl,

I do find that even now if I'm on my feet too long i get sore and more so by the end of the day. When i went to my surgeon in the first place it felt like I had a fullness down there and it just didn't look like it did before. I still find that i have a fullness feeling but I am just assuming that its because everything inside is still swollen. If thats the case how long does that last? I really do wish the surgeon had told me more about the recovery etc. So many different little things and I always wonder if they are normal or not. I'm in Canada and one of the health magazines just did a giant article on women and pelvic floor health. They stated that its something that is not talked about often and needs to have more and better knowledge out there. They spoke about non surgical treatments as well as surgical treatments. Hopefully its a start!

      hi Kristina

ohhhhh Canada. I lived in Calgary for 4 years with my family. we returned to UK in 20013 and it's the worst regret .

I want to return but without a job offer we have very little chance of getting pr.

I know that full feeling even to well when I had my anterior repair. for me the first repair failed and then brought down my uterus..

these surgeries are mind blowing for us with all these weird feelings and sensations. it drove me crazy and paranoid. still does.

my back wall is weak and so wished my proff Urogynacologist would if done all 3 all at once but no,it would cause the vagina to be too tight🙄 so here I am again with surgery in my future.

the fullness inside the vagina can go on for months due to the sensitivity and nerves of the vagina.. how many weeks are you now Kristina? are you menopausal yet or not?

how do you find the Urogynacologist in Canada, are they top of there game?

I have to say my consultant if fabulous. 35yrs in the profession so I'm in very safe hands.

where in lovely Canada are you hun? I so wish I could turn back time.

      Good morning welshgirl,

I'm in Ontario. About and hour south of Toronto. Its lovely here but starting to get cold. The leaves are changing so its almost time to hibernate for the winter..lol. What do you do for work?

I am just over 2 weeks post op, actually 17 days to be exact. I'm not menopausal yet. Does that make a difference? I had my TVT done to my bladder about 10 years ago. After having my twins my bladder sagged horribly so it was very necessary to get it done asap. I had a gynaecologist do both the surgeries. The doctors here seem to be on their game. He did admit that out of all the procedures to have done the posterior repair comes with the most pain. I am for sure paranoid when I have to go to the bathroom. I'm so scared I am going to tear something so I actually stopped my pain killers so I don't get constipated. I still take a softener and eat a lot of fiber. It certainly is hard making sense of everything thats happening down there and all the weird sensations. I'm pretty much back to my normal house duties but refuse to lift anything heavy. What is too heavy though? My doctor just said no heavy lifting. This seems like a pretty common procedure in UK, is that a fair statement?

    hi

I am 3 weeks post op after cystocele, rectocele and vaginal vault stage 3 repair using the sacrospinous fixation technique. I am 74 and prolapse was getting unbearable (as I also have a auto immune condition LIchen Planus which was being aggravated by the pressure on my vulval area) so decided it was vital. like now, or depression was shifting my thoughts in another direction.

I am reasonably fit and healthy so passed the pre assessment.

I have to say that its been not as bad as I thought it would be, except for the rectocele. Which is fairly horrible. My default BMs are constipated due to IBS C type and I knew I would need a lot of help with my bowels. Phloe capsules twice a day, Laxol two tabs, then I use kiwifruit crush every day, a glassful and Lactulose 10 -20 mls at night, loads and loads of water and plenty of vege. even then I need to use Glycerine suppositories if I havent been for two days. Its painful pooping. And painful for hours afterwards. I am only on paracetamol as I refused opioids and cant tolerate anti inflammatories.

Kristina, I hope you have help and are able to rest a lot. After 4 days you cant expect to feel like anything but sore.! And swelling will take ages to go down. I had a very big rectal prolapse and I am expecting many more weeks yet of healing and accompanied discomfort. You have to be patient and careful.

I am new here after quite a few years away so hope this is an ok place to post. I came to find out in others were in the same place as me after 3 weeks, as one cant help wondering if whats happening to yourself is normal.

One thing thats worrying me is that I NEVER had leakage of urine in my life but now I seem to have a spill after I've finished on the loo and go to stand up, then I get a small gush happening.

I just noticed this thread is a few weeks old! oh dear. I hope you are loads better now Kristina!

Ps IS there a way to do auto correct on this site? Its taken me an hour to write this !
