What to expect from week 2 of Zoloft?

I finished up my first week of 25mg Zoloft yesterday and I really hope it only gets better from here. I have been experiencing a lot of side effects from the first week. Increased anxiety (that being the worst part), insomnia, slight decrease in appetite, shakiness, increased hand and foot sweating, slight dizziness, muscle weakness and diarrhea. So, the first week was definitely pretty tough and I'm still struggling to cope with it all. What can I expect from the second week of sertraline? Will the side effects most likely get noticably better or will it possibly be a slow decrease in side effects?

Hi Alex. For me the first week has always been the worst. By the second week all my side effects, dry mouth, nausea, diarrhea all started to get better. The only thing that lingered was the increased anxiety. Which is by far the worst part! I agree with you there. But know that the anxiety is being caused by the med and should get better soon. Everytime I have gone on sertraline the increase in anxiety lingered for 2-3 weeks but did progressively get better within that time. I have always started at 50mg so maybe it wont be as long for you at 25mg. Did your doctor give you anything to help with the increase in anxiety? Ativan or diazepam? I know it's hard, but try to stick with it! Here for you! xo

Yep! I have 0.5mg Ativan to help me get through the next couple weeks. Though I try not to take it as much as I want to, just to reduce the risk of any addiction. It's good to know that the increase in anxiety isn't uncommon at all. At the moment, it just sucks because my main anxiety issue is my hypochondria. So any side effects that are even slightly weird or uncommon end up bringing out my anxiety again. But I know I just need to stick with it and see how things are at the end of the first few weeks!
Thank you for your comment!

Everyone is different-- but the second week was much better... around the 10 day mark-- I started to feel much better. My anxiety curbed and I could eat again.
I'm only a week ahead of you, also on 25 mg. I still have side effects pop up here and there but for the most part-- I'm MUCH better!
I hope your course follows mine and that you feel better this week... Either way- hold on- and remember that it's worse before it gets better-- but it DOES get way better!
