What to expect when boot comes off

Hi I fractured ankle 7 weeks ago went bk to the doctor 2 weeks ago told me it's healed but because was a bad break I need to wear rocker boot and use crutches I have a week left before I go back and loose the boot.

I'm really worried tho on what to expect. Is it hard to walk? I'm worried I'll loose my balance or something when trying to walk.

I'm also worried they will make me keep the boot longer.

Anyone been there and done that and can give me piece of mind or what to expect

Hi Lisa,  I kind of chuckled then I read your post because it sounded so much like me when I broke my 5th metatarsal (my only broken bone).  I was worried about everything....will it heal, will I need surgery with pins, will I need the NWB cast longer and on and on.  I'm going to share with you something someone told me. The outcome does not change based on the amount of time that you worry.  It helped me a bit.  I still worried but I would catch myself and change my thoughts.  Hope that will help you some.  I can tell you that it was harded, for me, to walk in the boot than without it because the sole of the boot was thicker than my shoes so I was lopsided walking.  That made me lean onto my good foot and swing my broken foot forward so my walk was kind of like a limp. During the 2 weeks you have used crutches and the boot how much weight are you able to put onto your broken ankle side vs carring your weight forward with your hands/crutches?  I was in a boot with a walker for 3-4 weeks and during that time I was able to end up walking equally, weight wise, between my good and bad foot and only rolled the walker forward without using it to bear any weight but a "just in case" for balance.  I really don't think that you will have to worry about balance when you start to walk again without the boot.  My balance was better without the boot.  I just had to lose the limp caused by the imbalance of the thick soled boot.  Also, don't worry about keeping the boot longer.  It will be your doctor that makes a medical decision that is right for you.  Remember that no amount of worry will change that decision.  You should have peace of mind that your treatment will be tailored to what is best for you.  Your ankle healed very quickly!  Good luck, relax and breathe.
