What to take for pain

Posted , 5 users are following.

Having low grade pain continually for last few weeks. No fever or diarrhea or constipation. Went to GP who prescribed 400 mg of ibuprofen for a week. I thought ibuprofen was not to be taken with DD so was a bit surprised, but does it mean if taken for a long while? Have not taken them but paracetomol is not working to relieve the pain. Do I need to go on liquid diet or take antibiotics as finding the pain quite difficult on a daily basis?.

Seeing GP again on Wednesday but think I will ask for a private referral to a Gastroenterologist as can't go on like this. It is making my anxiety worse. I do not feel ill and have not lost my appetite. I do not get it when laying down at night but comes on as soon as I have eaten in a morning. Any advice on what to take for pain would be appreciated as I'm sure you're not meant to have it every day.

Put a heating pad on low and it should release some discomfort along with ibro

Hi, might be worth trying Buscopan! I would absolutely insist that your GP refers you. I suffered with Diverticulitis for 30 years with a few flare ups, but early in 2016 I had a bad one which hospitalised me for a week and I was found to have Sepsis caused by a burst DD abscess. I had another attack 7 weeks ago and had to have emergency surgery. This emergency could have been avoided if my GP had told the surgeon that I had been unwell for over 1 year. I would hate this to happen to someone else so please make sure you get checked by a specialist. Good luck.

Thank you Michael. So sorry that you have had some problems and hope you are feeling much better. My ct scan showed no abscess, inflamation, diverticulitis etc and my pain is low level albeit continues lately. I will definitely insist on a referral to a specialist as as lovely as my GP is she seems to be clutching at straws with me. Cant think what is causing the pain unless there is inflamation.

No problem. I hope that I haven't alarmed you! Has your GP tested your blood for inflammation marker's?

Had that done just before scan about 4 weeks ago but realise bloods can change quickly. You did not alarm me and thank You for your concern. I am really fed up with this as i've forgotten what a ' normal' colon feels like without discomfort. Going on a cruise on 25th and don't want to feel like this. Maybe a course of antibiotics will help as never been given any.

I certainly feel for you as I have discomfort everyday . I was diagnosed a couple of months ago and there isn't one day I feel well. I was perfectly healthy up until then . I am frightened to eat . I take paracetamol and a hot water bottle everynight. I have changed my diet and take light laxitives every day . It's awful isn't it . Poor Micheal , surgery ! What an awful condition ! Never heard of it before ! 😣Best of luck to everyone x

Sounds just like me! Low grade pain in left lower abdomen. Sometimes it affects my left leg too. No diarrhoea or constipation. Scans and blood works show nothing. Sigmoidoscopy could not be completed because of poor bowel prep. so I may be referred for another one. It can be quite tiring sometimes. A heating pad helps in the evenings if it is really bothering me. Paracetamol does nothing for it and I don’t take ibuprofen as that can aggravate my heartburn. Hope you feel better soon.  Mine has been with me for the past eight months!
