I am 5 weeks post Op and still on a whole lot of medication painkillers.
Am I the only one who still needs so many.
Gapapentin 900 mg p/d
Cocodamol 30/500 mg x 8 p/d
Naproxen 1000 mg p/d
Amitryptiline 20 mg at night
Oxycodine 10 mg when needed.
Cut down on Tuesday to
Gapapentin 600 mg p/d
Cocodamol 30/500 mg x 6 p/d
Naproxen 500 mg p/d
Amitryptiline 10 mg at night
Oxycodine 10 mg when needed.
Hope I can reduce all these over time.

I am 4 weeks post op today !
Taking 1 30/500 co codamol and paracetemol 3-4 times a day
Also 2 200mg slow release ibuprofen at night if had achy day
Desperate to get off opiates as they make going to toilet so difficult 😕
Also noting need for pain meds reducing and planning to drop to non prescriptionco codamol next week.
Do you think you might be doing too much if you need all those pain meds?

Hi Cathrine,
really don't think I am doing to much, maybe very occasionally.
But I have been on all of these painkiller for a long time. so they probably don't even work that well anymore.

Wondering then what happens if you reduce. Are you still in a lot of pain despite meds?
It is my understanding that our body do get accustomed to opiate meds needing more to get same effect.
If your still in pain maybe you need to get that checked out but if ok maybe do a bit more moving and walking as too much resting can cause more pain too.
Sending you healing hugs Petra

Thank you Catherine.
As the meds do not get rid of the pain then I reduce some of them and at the moment there is no difference in pain yet.
So I will reduce some more on Tuesday and see how I go.
if the meds I am taking do not change the pain and it stays the same when I reduce them. Then is no point really taking them all.
I think its time to reduce them.
I've been far to long on so many.
I do my exercises and go for walks and will increase my walks too when its dry outside.
I do walk around in my house as much as I can.
I am sure it all will get better in time.
Hope that you're getting back to normal quickly too Catherine 😊

Thank you Petra. I am pleased with recovery though impatient too as find restrictions frustrate me at times !
Get cabin fever too. But overall not found it as bad as imagined.
I had not realised your surgery was quite complex....also you had been experiencing chronic pain for sometime.
Whatever changes you make slowly wins the race. Take care

it can get very frustrating with some moves.
i am a very impatient person and just want to get back to normal as quick as possible.
as my life has been sort of on Hold since last March when they found out that I have a Hip Fracture.
so I am looking forward to get everything back to normal again.
Good Luck and best wishes to you too
