I then started to feel dizzy, lying down or getting up, felt like being drunk! things took a turn for the worst when I started to stumble around, having to grab hold of things to steady myself, then came along the tinitus just to agrivate things further.
I saw my doctor who refered me to ENT, I had a hearing test (strange I thought) seemed also lost part of my hearing also. Next came the consultant, he concluded that I had positional vertigo.
I was refered for an epley manouvre, did I feel ill after it! It seemed to work for me for a couple of weeks, however, the symptoms persited, the manouvre was again repeated.
Things had settled after this second attempt, however, in feb this year things have gone down hill again.
Revisited the hospital to have further treatment, irrigation to the ears to stimulate balance, painful, still feeling dizzy and now being refered to a further specialist. Where will it end?
The tinitus will always be with me, however I am being fitted will a hearing device to create white noise to distract me from the tinitus. Hearing is also irripairable, so got to live with that also. only hope things improove. Thanks Mr Burglar!!!

Is it normal to feel this bad after it? Specialist told me there would be no side effects.

I did not get it again until last year twice and now again. Been off work for 2 weeks with it. Every time I see a doctor I get some Betahistine Dihydrochloride tablets. I think they are supposed to reduce the symptoms of the dizzy feeling. Maybe they do, maybe they don't, I don't know. I have also been given some Proclorperizine by one doctor, then told to stop taking them and switch to the Betahistine. I feel like some kind of guinea pig. I had to laugh when I found out the Procloperizine is also used for schizophrenics according to the leaflet.
But my question is, is this going to affect me for my whole life? I have a job, a family and a mortgage to support. When I get this I become almost disabled for weeks at a time. Every time it happens it seems to be for a longer period of time. It is concerning to say the least. The most irritating thing is that nobody seems to know how to cure it. Not with all of our "modern technology" and in our "advanced civilisation".

I have a call into a specialist, for which I needed a referral. I am not very optimistic at this point. Considering the number of people who post here, it obviously is a widespread medical problem.

You all have my sympathy because dizziness is one frightening thing. I've never heard of 'The Epley' and it doesn't sound very inviting......
I was diagnosed with Benign Positional Paroxysmal Vertigo a few days ago, and I'm already fed up with it! I can't find any position where I can be really relaxed any more because I am afraid to move my head in case it brings on the dizziness. I have the worst of the symptoms at night, particularly when I turn my head to the right. The GP has prescribed physio exercises but I haven't felt well enough to do them just yet. I also suffer from hemifacial spasm on the right side of my face and so this new thing feels like an illness too far.
I've had one previous experience of labyrinthitis (really horrible with sickness and an inability to even move in bed for fear of the world turning and being sick). But this only lasted about a week, so I am hoping this will be the same. Has anyone been given Stemetil for their dizziness I wonder? It did the trick with my labyrinthitis. Also, has anyone tried flying (on an aeroplane!) with the dizziness. Am due to go on holiday in a couple of weeks and my husband may divorce me if I'm not well enough to go.
Hope you all get some respite from your problems. Any tips would be appreciated.
Cheers and best wishes, Roseann PS This won't seem to post - damn!
