What were your symptoms? How long did it take to get your ultrasound results?

I had been spotting for eleven days and I had a dull pain in my lower left quadrant, so I went to the doctor to get checked out. The doctor recommended I get a full pelvic ultrasound done. I only allowed the technician to do the transabdominal one. My pain hadn't been severe but i've had pain under my rib cage, in the center of my abdomen under my belly button and left leg pain and the pain comes and goes. What were your symptoms? Was the pain constant? How long did it take to get your ultrasound results? Thanks

I didn't have any signs with my menstrual cycle but I have severe bloating, basiclally look pregnant and I wouldnt really discribe it as pain maybe more discomfort with occasional pain in the same areas, below my rib cage and by my bellybutton...i think mine pushes my bellybutton somedays. I went for my ultrasound they said the results would be ready in a day but it took me 4 days to get back in to see my doctor. Ive ended up with a 23cm simple cyst. Hope all goes well for you.

Thank you for your reply. Your symptoms sound similar to mine. I think discomfort would be a better term as well. Are you going to have surgery? What are your treatment options?

Yes im going to have surgury just waiting for school to be over so I dont miss a bunch. They're going to try to remove mine laparoscopically but since it is so big theres a chance they may have to open me right up and chances are high that they have to remove my ovary as well. The doctor told me he wouldnt really know until he got in there whether the ovary can be saved or not.

i woke up with a strong dicomfort in my left lower quadrant. I went to the hospital to see the doctor who gave me antibiotics and the pain gradually reduced and then stopped. But however there is still swollen lower left abdomen. The Dr recommended a scan which i did and the result was collected after one week and complex thick wall cyst was suspected.

I would think that they cannot see it with just abdominal. I had a cyst and the only way they could see it was vaginal ultra sound. Why did they only do the abdominal

I know an 8 year old whose ovarian cyst was found through a transabdominal ultrasound. I'm not sexually active and I felt like they were just trying to get more money from me. I'm not completely opposed to it if my doctor really deems it necessary.

I was told that they did both vaginal and abdominal with mine because the vaginal ultrasound helps them get a closer view of the ovary.  It made sense to me because mine is actually contained within the ovary - nothing is outside of it, and other than the small uterine polyp that was also found, nothing showed up anywhere else, including the other ovary.  I'd also had a CT scan that confirmed lymph nodes and other areas were all clear prior to having the ultrasounds, but it was ordered by a urologist whom I saw prior to seeing the gyn.

My only symptom was urinary frequency and a CT scan revealed the enlarged ovary, which is pressing on my bladder.  They did both vaginal and abdominal ultrasound testing to get a better look and found the complex mass contained within the ovary and my surgery will be in three weeks.  I had the CT scan on 2/8, got the results on 2/10, and then got the ultrasound and diagnosis on 2/29; it took a little time to get lab work back and I was also working with two doctors initially (urologist and gyn).  Hope this helps.

Best of luck with your surgery. I called my doctor yesterday and left a message. I got my ultrasound on tuesday. What cyst did they diagnose you with?

Thanks!  At this point, all we know is that it's a complex mass, but all of the lab work on hormone levels and cancer markers came back with normal results.  The doctor is "not suspicious" at this point, so hopefully it will turn out to be some kind of benign cyst.  I also have a little uterine polyp that will be removed and have been told that it is likely benign as well.
