TN hit me as a teen - Pain was so intense  i was so scared to put anything in my mouth even water to avoid the attacks - that combined with the multiple painkillers ended with a hospital stay and being put on a drip from dehydration - lasted 2 weeks in total then dissappeared ..has niggled throughout the years but mildly- until last friday and im 31 now- pain got worse and yesterday i was in such intense pain even a tiny sip of water set it of - i since have had kids and have had two natural childbirths no pain meds and i can say that i would rather have 5 babies than have that pain! So a hard night and a morning doc trip ive been given tegretol - i feel like a junkie! if no relief in a couple of days what can i do? HELP!

    The Tegretol took about 16 hours to do anything for me so i also was given Codepane which has codeine and panadol. Did the Doc give you anything to tide you over until the Tegretol kicks in?

      I have some but taking them with the Tegretol didnt mesh i couldnt sleep at all ive had 2 hrs sleep in 2 days and barely no food or water cause of the pain i feel like i cant even function  - just got in some water and had a nap feeling slightly better  - i hate the feeling of these meds my partner had to take time of work to look after the kids as i really arnt myself

    Bek I actually have three decent days in a row. Slight pain with some side effects but nothing too bad. My biggest battle is between the 11am - 3pm I am very sleepy. I am on day 9 on Tegretol. Started off at 200mg twice a day which did nothing for the pain. I slowly increased to 700mg twice a day and probably need to go to 800mg in the near future to get to a pain free status. I agree with you and do feel like a junkie and will consider the surgery rather than take these pills

      Im on day two of Tegreol and been dizzy and sleepy all day - i hate it managed to get some food in my mouth today so feeling a bit better - can tell the pain is still there but no major attacks today - i dont want to be on these meds for to long - i dont like the feeling or effects i dont even feel like myself!

    Just a general health query..do you get cold sores? Do you get Sinus infections? just following a line of thought that i have been investigating myself since 2011.

      Never had one in my life, or a sinus infection- always had the pain -and bad teeth think ive had it since childhood can remember avoiding brushing my teeth cuse it hurt- only had it this bad twice in my life - really is the worst pain imaginable!

    i found the Tegretol to work quickly, and the best drug i have used for the spasms and pain control. Unfortunately all codeine and panodol do is make ou drwsy, they dont work on neuro pain. The side effects are horrible, but the condition is also horrible. Good luck and take care.
