Wheezing

My husband was diagnosed about a year ago with COPD. He is a fit 77 year old and can walk 10 miles without getting breathless. However he cough persistently and has a permanent wheeze. The doctor says he has a clear chest. He says Otis like a permanent irritation on his throat that won't clear. We have tried various sweets and lunctus but nothing seems to help.

    I used to cough a lot with COPD, especially at night, until my gp prescribed Symbicort inhaler, which is a cortisone.  It's a bit of a worry from the osteoporosis point of view but it's virtually stopped the coughing, which was the exhausting unproductive type.     

    Sometimes I forget to use it at night until I start coughing and that reminds me - might be worth a try for your husband?   He does sound fit - I wish I could walk even 1 k without getting breathless.   It's interesting how differently COPD affects different people, isn't it?

    I'm sorry I can't really help except to say I've heard other folks on here speak of feeling like there's something in their throat and they can't clear It. He's gotta tell the Dr and request a medication hopefully like jude was saying. Please keep us posted.
