When can I say that my ankle surgery worked?

I had ankle pain for 2 years and half. I had ankle surgery 50 days ago. The surgeon tightened the peroneal and the brevis tendons (the surgeon saw that they were torn during surgery), and also put a suture on my ATF ligament. Fortunately, I have no metal in my ankle. I am walking with the Aircast SP Walker boot on my foot. I just restarted to walk. I still have pain when I walk. Friends are telling me "Did the surgery work? You feel no pain anymore?". I tell them that I have to wait 3 months after surgery to know. I didn't start physical therapy yet. People think sometimes that surgery work fast and has to work all the times.

How long after surgery can I say that surgery worked or no?

I had something similar - started PT after 4 weeks in a cast and then a boot. I had it Dec 28th and my ankle still hurts after much PT. Getting a bit frustrated. I think each person is different but I really thought I'd be totally healed by now. Was referred back to my back doctor (had back surgery 9 months before the ankle surgery) and they referred me to a physiatrist (holistic dr.) and she found I had a Pelvic Floor issue UGH so now I see a Pelvic PT which is helping but ankle still not totally healed. You realize how everything is connected.
