When can I start exercising again?

Hello,

I am am on day 25 after the surgery. I am doing okay and what appears to be normal from the good folks here that have helped me. Today was a painful day but yesterday was great, we will see what tomorrow brings.

My question today is about exercise? The dr told me to not pick up over 10 pounds for 6 weeks. Before the surgery I went to the gym 3 days a week and was very active every day. I have done nothing but go to work since the surgery. I want to start working out again.

Can anybody give me any advice on this? I don’t want to do anything to cause a setback.

Thanks

I'd be VERY CAREFUL with this. I am a little past 6 weeks post op and I still can feel sore and have some pain and some bleeding with bowels movements. I've decided nothing major workout wise till the bleeding has stopped permanently and I am relatively pain free. That's my perspective. I sure as heck don't want to bork this up and am NOT going through another surgery!!!

I agree completely with not wanting to do this again. I will take how ever long I need to make sure I am good to go with exercising. Its just that I have never been this sedentary for this long in my entire life and it is driving me crazy.

Of course when I signed up for this surgery the nurse girl said I could go back to normal life after 3 weeks, well as we all know that's a bunch of baloney. Today is day 26 and it is a whole lot better than day 14 was but I am still in pain during and after a BM that last for 6-10 hours.

I was just wondering if anybody had gone back to exercising and at what point.

    Thanks

I can empathize. This all started for me last May and as a result was almost totally housebound because of pain and related problems. I also have had chronic health problems that have sidelined me on and off for years, so I am like a racehorse chompin at the bit to get out of the gate as well. Let your body tell you when it's ready. You will know. If in doubt, if there is any pain, it's a no to any hard or heavy workout.

I would advise you not go back to the gym. If you want some exercise then go for walks and remember how far you walk you always have the return journey back to the beginning to do. That is what I did and build this up.
