When did you first venture out?

OP date was 10th October. Before my OP we arranged a

night out, ticket purchase, this will be at a seated venue

and probably for 2 hours with an interval of 15 mins, not

a long car ride from home so not long sitting in the car.

My main worry is that when I sit with my feet resting on

the floor my legs take on a red/purple colour and start to

ache a bit and feel as though they are swelling. I would

value any advice on whether other

people had these symptoms and what you did, when I

mentioned the outing to the nurse she said it should be

fine but I do worry about any damage caused by the

swelling, do I jiggle my legs every so oftern or not go?

Can you contact the venue or ticket office and tell them about your situation and ask for an aisle seat or perhaps tell them you need a disabled place and hire a wheelchair? They may have wheelchairs to use at the venue or you can contact your local British Red Cross hire one. At least you might be able to stretch your leg out. Hope you enjoy the evening.

Thank you kathryn...Fortunately I do have an aisle seat.

I did phone but the only wheelchair they have is broken!

And if I wanted to sell my ticket back they'd be more

      than delighted to buy it.

I was more concerned with doing long term damage to my feet as there does seem to be so many different

kinds of whys and wherefores, whether to try and see

how it goes. I do understand that we all heal differently

but its good to hear other peopes take on things.

my mind has, no doubt like others, over the last few

days gone through many different scenarios regarding

my feet, wondering how much I should and shouldn't

do but I'm good at knowing when enough is enough, it was just the 2 hour thing being away from the safety of

      home.

My mind will be at rest once I've had my first dressing

changed and can see that they are, hopefully, doing ok.

I had also booked some live theatre tickets before I knew of op date.  I imagined I would not make it but dared to hope.  I had both feet done and decided I  had to go for my sanity.  I was just under 3 weeks.  I was dropped off at the door and was using crutches with surgery shoes.  Was able to sit on the aisle which allowed some elevation of one foot and nobody climbing over me.  I took the attitude that if it turned out not to be a good idea I would just get up and leave.  I managed the whole show but feet were stinging and very glad to reach home and put them up.  No harm done to feet and a if lift in spirits to be out of the house.  Absolutely go but be prepared to bail outif needed

      Thank you Jane

like you I have both feet done, glad in a way I chose too,

I also have my little black shoes and crutches.

I'm hopeing that I'll somehow bd able to stretch them

out into the aisle. The one with a cast on is more

bothersome as it feels so restricted.

Stupid thoughts go through my mind... but not once

reading through all the bunion posts on here, and I've

been through some, have I read that someones foot has

fallen off through lack of circulation or has indeed

exploded. These are silly things for some reason I've

      feared.

Very interested in this conversation as I also have tickets for a show 3 weeks on from my surgery. At the moment I don't feel it would be wise to go but once the stitches come out on Monday I am hopeful that I will be well enough to sit for the 2 hours as long as I keep foot elevated before and afterwards.

Everyone is different but .... I only experienced pain at the 2 to 3 week mark, after my first bandage change. It was really sore. Apart from a couple of nice drives and cafés for lunch then straight home to rest, I didn't really "go out" til the 5 week mark and my surgeon said I had a perfect recovery because of all the rest - to me it was not worth getting wrong.

But everyone is different/has different experiences. Good luck with what ever you decide :-)

Well I went on the understanding that I would get a Taxi

home if i didn't feel up to staying but it wasn't to bad,

managed to rest my worst leg over hubbys knees to

keep it elevated for most of the time.

I have no plans to venture out anywhere else now until

October 24th when I have my first dressing change.

My experience, so far, has been similar to yours. I promised myself that I wouldn't overdo things and to rest and keep my feet elevated as much as possible. I have had a couple of brief outings locally and I have been fine. I have kept myself busy with one or two crafts I am interested in which whiles away the time. I have also managed to put things on Ebay that I had always meant to do! I hope the rest of your recovery goes well :-)
