I am 4 weeks post op and can stand the weight of my leg now, I am supposed to start weight bearing exercises at 5 weeks and should be full bearing by 6 weeks but I'm scared.

I’m currently 9 weeks post op and im still not weight bearing yet. Only 50%. Im supposed to be fully weight bearing at 11 weeks.  I had a trimalleolar fracture with syndesmotic tears, so not sure if the type of break make a difference.

Anyone who has been through this, how long was it until you could walk without any assistance ( crutches, walker)?

My op was on 23 March, 3 weeks post op I was full weight bearing in the air boot and from 8 May without the boot. I did not use crutches at any time. The big screws were removed on 18 June and this made my ankle movement easier.

seems we had the surgery in the same week, tell me more about hardware removal? was it a tough surgery? or 10 min surgery as my doc says? how long did it take you to come back and walk again? my doc said 1 day only? and how do you feel after removal?

Hi Kilanyworld, I was told by my surgeon that it was going to be a quick op but I cannot say how long it took as I had a general anaesthetic. I walked straight away and there was not much pain. Once the dressing and bandages came off two weeks after, my ankle was

moving much better than before the screws removal.

Started walking two weeks post ORIF, limp free about 3 1/2 weeks after ORIF and running 7 weeks after. I’m about 16 weeks post ORIF and have regained about 90% range motion and strength. Work on range of motion every single day; work on hip strength as well. It’ll all turn out for the better.
