Posted , 5 users are following.

Just wondering if anybody knows when if I would have felt side effects by now. I'm only on day 2 and was wondering if I were to experience side effects would they have started already?

In case anybody wants more info im going from 40mg of citalopram to 30mg of citalopram and 10mg of fluxotine and so far feel fine.

Am I lucky or is the worst yet to come lol.

    Hi Kain,

everyone has a different reaction to meds, you may be lucky and have none. As to when you may feel any side effects, thats an unkown also. When i took my first few tablets i was sitting waiting for a reaction, nothing happened! Three weeks in I felt like I had caught the flu, upset tummy also. You may be lucky and not get many SE s fingers crossed!,

A lovely lady Katecogs here on this site has wonderful knowledge. Im sure you will get great support here, dont be afraid to ask. Also see your Dr if you are concerned! Eat well leave caffiene alone, drink good filtered water and less booze. Prozac can make you feel quite sick with alchohol.

if you can also try and keep going out, keep busy and pace yourself. All these measures help your body adjust along the rocky prozac road.

    good luck

      Hi Carol,

it caught my eye that you mention to stay away from caffeine...did you observe it makes side effects worse with fluoxetine?

I am abt 4.5 weeks in and struggle with major side effects, though last time when I took it years ago I had almost no side effects. Very keen to do anything to minimise them, as it has been a rough ride.

      Thanks for sharing your experience.

      Hello Luci,

yes ive had times when coffee has made me feel bad, other members have said caffeine makes them feel sick. I now use decaf, i still enjoy the taste of coffee but dont like the rush. Also sugar, if i eat too much i cant sleep. Sugar isnt good anyway so cutting bad can only help us. Coke is another drink i stay away from, actually all sodas are quite bad for us, delic but not very healthy! I just feel we overload our bodies with crap and then take meds which puts more strain on our digestive systems, nervous system. I do love sweet things but i try to limit it, dark chocolate has tryptophan in it as does warm milk. Bananas also are said to help with low mood, depression.

i wish i could say ive found the magic combination but i cant, i do feel its the right choice to try and eat healthy.

i have lavender oil to inhale, or rub on wrists its calming!

magnesium may help you too, i read alot of posts looking for helpful advice.

yes its a rough ride for sure, we just need to be positive, look forward to the sunshine days!

      best of luck 🌺

      Hi Carol,

      thank you for the advise!

I am a healthy eater, and I don't drink alcohol or soft drinks. But I enjoy a coffee in the morning and sometimes may have second one during the day, so wondered if this can make the side effects of fluoxetine worse. Right now with impacted sleep as another side effect I cannot imagine no coffee boost! wink

I will try magnesium supplements! And just put some lavendar oil on pillow for better sleep.

You are right, healthy eating, exercise, outdoors, sun, slow energy release food etc must all help with better mental health. Just that often if one suffers anxiety or depression it is so difficult to do these things, or any sort of 'self care', even if it is exactly what is needed. When I have a 'low day' it is hard enough for me to even shower or get myself out of the house.

I tend to be better with healthy lifestyle whenever I come out of a depresssion, when I feel like 'I can stay strong and do more'.

But now that anxiety is lessening on some days and weather is better, I feel like I can do more of the healthy things, and I would like to get myself to the gym this week at least for a yoga session smile

Best of luck to you too, lots of happy days!

    Hi Kain!

Fingers crossed you will not see any side effects, since your serotonin levels are already increased by citalopram, and the dose of 10mg is quite low.

Side effects from fluoxetine really vary. I took it 3x in the past with no major side effects apart from head pressure and loss of appetite for about 3 weeks, starting after a few days, and settling with no problems.

However this time around I have experienced major side effects.

So it is a little unpredictible with this medication. I hope you will experience little or none! smile

    All the best,

    Luci

You might not get any Kain! I came off citalopram and went onto 20mgs of fluoxetine with no problems... stayed on that dose for a while then increased to 40mgs a day. Only thing I noticed was a bit of flu like symptoms (nothing near as bad as flu though!) but that went in a few days.

Only thing that happened to me was my weight increased while I was taking them. So watch out for that and an increase in your appetite. I'm off them now despite them working well for me but gaining two stone made me miserable.

    Good luck xx
