On it 4 days for night shift insomnia. Insane hunger. Already have belly, and my metabolism diec. My clothes don't fit. When does hunger end? It is torture. Worse than insomnia.

I'm afraid the Remeron (mirtazapine) munchies don't end. Excessive hunger and weight gain are well-known side-effects of this medication. I'd suggest finding another solution for your insomnia!

Thanks. This is awful. Have never ever felt anything quite like this before. Not consuming calories isn't as simple as ignoring or refusing food. IT WILL NOY STOP, which is sad, b/c otherwise I like it well enough. Have tried them all and needed a non-benzo to knock me out in the mornings after night shift.

It's not cancer. It's not even arthritis or a cluster headache or bad cramps. But it is enough to cause me to decide to gut out the remainder of night shift until I can transfer. Four days in and my metabolism is dead.

I'm slightly confused as to how long you've been doing night shifts. If it's only a short time it's perfectly natural that you wouldn't have adjusted yet.

I did night shifts on a rolling basis (one week in 4 or 6) for 10 years when I was working as a nurse. That was even more disruptive but it became manageable over time. I'm guessing it would be easier if you're doing permanent night shifts. Unfortunately, you can't expect to sleep as deeply or for as long during the day, but there are things you can do to improve your chances. Obviously, switching off the phone and making sure your friends and family know not to disturb you. Heavy curtains will keep out the light and it's important to keep your bedroom as cool as possible, using a fan if necessary.

I used to use antihistamines to help me - preferably the older type, that make you sleepy. I only ever took a small dose, and not every day, to avoid developing tolerance to them. Unlike Remeron, these have no side-effects.
