When do you notice sleep improving?

I'm on day 7 of zoloft. I still am having take Restoril to help sleep. I've had insomnia for months and I finally had my doctor start me on my first anti depressant. I'm still feeling a dark cloud hanging over me and no appetite. Everyday I worry about whether I can sleep without taking something. The doctor said I could take the Restoril everyday for 2 weeks until zoloft kicks in. I worry that it will never happen.

For me it was the other way around. Before taking the tablets I couldn't get much sleep and woke up at 6am every day. The tablets knock me out if I take them at 11pm and I get a good nights sleep.

What time do you take them at? I notice if I take them in the morning or afternoon it pretty much messes up my sleep and i end up feeling sleepy throughout the day. I save the sleepy side effect for night time.

7 days is still early days. Mine took 12 weeks and still having a few niggling issues but feeling much much better. I started on a high dose though.

    What dose are you on?

    Hi there,

I could have written your post! Sleep will improve but very gradually. I was prescribed 2 x sleeping tablets per night to help insomnia and now into my 6th week on Sertraline I have cut down to half of 1 sleeping tablets per night. I manage about 5 hours sleep now whereas at the start of Sertraline I’d get 3 hours max of very broken sleep if at all. I worry about sleeping every night. BUT it will improve x

May I ask what sleeping pill you had taken? I'm prescribed 15mg temazapam. I hate it because it leaves me so groggy. Today I started the 50mg of setraline. I'm hoping I can get some sleep tonight because I don't want to do the sleeping pill.

I have Zoplicone. I didn’t want to rely on sleep meds either but found nothing else really helped. X

Hi if all of you have a little time to read my email or post i would be grateful because i think it would benefit you all, you see i have had insomnia on and off since i was 14 and i am now 54, and it has been hard , insomnia is not just one thing it is linked to other problems which i have depression , anxiety, eating disorder, ibs, severe migraines, and bdd, it has taken this long with doctors and specialists and counselling , drugs and alternative medicine to get me where i am today , do not get me wrong i have great days and bad days but its life, there is no over night cure, but there is lots of help out there if you are willing to do the work, everybody is different what works for one does not always work for others, that is why the doctor has to find what works for you combined with counselling, or talking therapies, i was put on drugs for my depression which made me very sick, then he changed them to sertraline, 50mg for 4 weeks then up it to 100mg made me so rough so i went back down to 50mg but i still did not feel right so i came of them without telling my doctor, wrong i know, and i had a terrible time time sleeping all the depression come back and i could not stop crying, so i called the doctor and told him, he said if i do not want to gp back on the drugs then i should call my counsellor, which i did, and it really helped, plus i watched a video on insomnia, a man who runs a clinic he said there are lots of things you can change that will help you get a great night sleep well here goes, the right temperature in the room, no tv, to simulate the mind , no mobiles unless important then have them on a non glare screen, no heavy meals ,last meal 3hrs before bed, no exercising before bed do it at least 3hrs before bed, the room should only be for sleeping not working, and if you want a drink no caffeine based ones herbal or cocoa, and if you want to read no books that excite you and wake up the brain, that sometimes you have to finish it,and no smoking it all sounds boring but i tried it last night for the first time and i had mt first 8hrs i have ever had and only pee twice it was amazing, but i really missed my  tv and fags lol, but he said if you still have problems go see your GP, sometimes you do need help as for me i take enough drugs so the natural way sounds good for me , so sorry it is long but i hope some of this helps ,and let me know how you got on, and i wish you all a good night sleep god bless,
