When does sleep improve?

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hi I have been so worried about sleep. It seemed like I had a few good days on my own last week going to sleep but still waking every couple hours. Now I'm having difficulty falling asleep and last night I had to take a sleeping pill. I'm on 50mg zoloft in the morning and I'm almost in my 4th week.

Hi again acfierros, I’m sure it will get better for you, up until just last week my sleep at night was really bad, and of course it was where I was constantly tired during most of the day, but by about the 7th and 8th week my sleep rapidly almost overnight started improving. I went from about 2-3 hours a night to now about 6-7 in the matter of a weeks time. So hang in there because when it starts improving it goes fast!! Just remember it all takes time to get better but it eventually does.

Thanks Joe I wake up still bit depressed because I could not fall asleep on my own. I hate having to do a pill to go to sleep. No matter how sleepy I am my mind won't shut off. Did you have that problem? Doctor says it's the anxiety.

I had and still do have the same problem, my mind starts running the min I lay down in bed! I literally had to train my mind to calm down. Now I just put on my headphones with a good e book and within the hour it usually puts me right out!

I was like that for the first few months.  I am on 200 mg now for OCD and am sleeping well.

      Dear Avril,

Do you mind sharing your story of going up to 200 mg? I'm struggling on 100 mg (went from 75-100) - increased anxiety and nausea.

    Hi again,

My sleep has improved a lot. I am on week 8 of 50mg. I still wake up a few times in the night but I don’t worry about it as much as I used to which I never thought I’d b a able to say ever! Your sleep will improve and u WILL sleep again without sleeping tabs. I used sleeping tablets for 2 Months straight and now just take a Phenergan x

Thanks vanilla123. Sleep is so important. I have anxiety to taking anxiety meds believe it or not. My Dr says it's ok to do .5 or .25 klonopin until zoloft kicks in. I'm approaching my 4th week. I am going to be starting a new job soon and I just want my sleep back. Thank you for the positive response.

No problem. Don’t feel bad about taking meds to help for now. There’s nothing worse than not sleeping. You will get there. If you ever want further support feel free to message me.

I started on 50 mg for 17 days, then upped to 100 mg for about a month, then 150 mg for a week, and 200 mg ever since.  I have only felt vaguely human since taking 200 mg, which is the dose for OCD and extreme anxiety. I still have issues which I am attempting to tackle with CBT.

The side effects for the first two months were horrific but thankfully have passed.

    Hope that is of help.

Thanks! How long have you been on 200 and what side effects did you have and did they not subside during pauses between increases? I also need to go to 200 mg (although I can’t find any trials that documentate this).

I haven't had any side effects after going from 150 mg to 200 mg
