When does this end?

Been dealing with acid reflux for over 10 years now. Finally went to doctor in July and was put on prilosec. Had a scope and all was great just a lot of acid and the doc stretched my esophogus. I took my meds and felt great for a month. ( Then I started drinking soda again here and there and eating out more). I know I know ..horrible. I'm pretty sure I created this setback. But in my defense the doc nor anyone else told me to keep restricting my diet until it heals. I just felt good so I was excited to eat again. Fast forward many meds and lots. no wait ...LOTS of chest pains later I'm still feeling crappy. The only combination of meds that finally was working was protonix and sulcrafate. Then I waited 10 days thanks to insurance trying to decide the coverage on protonix and my combo was ruined. So was my little glimmer of hope. I'm having my esophogus stretched again next week because I'm still having trouble swallowing. Most of the PPIs have given me bowel troubles. Like the urge to go is constantly there and it freaks me out. I now have this fear of being too far from a toilet.🙄 I'm back on protonix now. Looking forward to my throat stretch and getting on with life. Does anyone have a success story? Like they suffered and are now clear? This gets depressing. Cant eat anything great, have to prop up to sleep, stay on your left side...what a mess acid reflux can be. Thank goodness for here to vent.😊

I had acid reflux very bad. I basically learned not to eat fast and chew more efficiently before swallowing.

And stopped drinking sodas only once in a while as its the worst offender or eating before bedtime. I have learned to sleep with my head above my waist on a wedge and avoid spicy and acid type foods. Eating better by avoiding problem foods as well as time has healed my reflux . Oh and taking some medications on a empty stomach is also a big problem. A big help is to alternate milk or water with a few bites with every meal.

Quite a few people can get IBS with PPIs, ask your doctor about alverine, it helps those symptoms.

I still have foods and drinks that are bad for reflux, but I may have double dose nexium on those days! The thing is don't have everything bad at the same time. I like pizza and red wine, but I couldn't have it at the same time without suffering later! I really love carbonated drinks, but if I have more than a glass, I can experience a lot of pain.
