tinasuds, we started back after 41/2 weeks. We followed the precautions and made sure I was comfortable. I had left hip replaced and yes there was a little discomfort but did not over indulged. My hips were acrossed his and I used my pillow to make sure knees did not touch. I am praying all is well. I am now going into 4 months nut must have right hip maybe before year is out. My left hip is beautiful!!!

I had the anterior approach and no hip precautions. I'm not sure about the posterior approach. I was told whenever I was comfortable. It was about 4.5 weeks for me. Took it slow and needed support for my right leg (right hip) but all was good. Good luck!

Plenty of information on the net and Rocketmans website re safe positions. The hospital I went to gave out a sheet with diagrams of some positions I think the be aware refers to being aware of your body position if you are uncomfortable get comfortable. Be the more passive one to start with.

As to timing, when you are ready. For most of us around 6 weeks or after the post op check

    Hi Tina

The best positions are the ones that don't hurt!

Just be aware that swinging off the chandelier and jumping off the wardrobe is probably out for the foreseeable future.

Be inventive, have a go and a giggle and see what works for you both - but allow hubby to do most of the work!

    Have fun!

We started at week 6, see the 'Long Term Recovery' page in my website for safe positions depending on which partner had the THR.   Have fun getting acquainted again and trying new positions, but stop and try a different position if it hurts you at all.

My website address is in my personal info here ...

Hi. Im nearly 48 too and nearly 5 months post op. As of yet have not tried anything yet!

I think what your consultant means, is that you have to be careful on what positions you try, so as not to over extend the hip (if you know what I mean!) As it takes about a year for the hip to fully settle! Not saying you should wait a year! Just find postions that are comfy without over extention! Good luck!
