When I sit it feels like my nerves get compressed

When I sit for a MINUTE OR TWO it feels like my nerves get compressed and the sensation changes in my bottom and my legs. I get the same feeling in my shoulder blades when I try to lie on my sides. This started several months ago. The neurologist checked me out but I haven't had a recent MRI yet. He thinks it's fibromyalgia. How common is this in fibromyalgia, and what is the best source of information/explanation of my symptoms? I haven't found any info. about my particular symptoms anywhere.

I'm surprised you can't find anything in Google...I google Fibromyalgia and get alot of results.

I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia...I don't know how common it is...but I find it commonly diagnosed when they can't find anything else...after they rule out Lupus, SLE and Lyme.

The Neurologist does all the blood work for those tests (if your Dr. didn't already).

Then if you have other bloodwork that is off like "inflammation markers"....they sent you to a Rheumatologist...the Neurologist is not the typical Specialist to diagnose Fibro....a Rheumatologist is.

The BAD thing about Fibro...is people don't believe in it....they don't believe (common folk)...you have ANYTHING because Fibro does not have a test for itself....

Well, it does..but it is new and it costs the patient 747 out of pocket as I was told by my Doctor yesterday.  Because i was telling her that I am SICK of other Doctors really not believing in my symptoms because Fibro is too over diagnosed...when they can't find a condition that has more "respected" names.

Hi Erin, I have the same problem as you I find it very difficult to sit for even a short period because the pressure of what I am sitting on hurts so much.  I can no longer lay comfortably in bed as that hurts as well.  At one time I could lay on my back and do some relaxation but no longer.  I get pain in my arms and across my shoulder blades but unfortunately as I can only sleep on my side it is the lesser of two evils side not back.  I am waiting to see a Rheumatologist and I am just hoping he can explain all these things to me.  Fibromyalgia really does take over your life especially in the beginning but understanding and help from groups like this does help alot. Wishing you well and take care

Hi Erin, I seem to remember a discussion on this forum a while ago about the sitting part of your post. I have the 'nerves being compressed' feeling sometimes when sitting but not all the time, and I know several other fibro sufferers who experience the same thing. When it happens it's also excruciating when I first stand up again. Don't know if this happens to you too? x

Yes this is common but it also could be trapped nerves in ur spin. I get it really bad like u but i also suffer from trapped nerves in my lower spine. When i sit or stand for over 5mins at a time i get numbness/pins n needles or my legs go floppy and cant want. They even go from under me when walking so i walk with crutches.

Fibermialga can be different in people like everything some people get it bad or just get a few syptoms.

    Mine are:

    As ive said above

numbness on the left side mostly on my face (not heart attack).

My body is tense all the time (shoulder, back, stomach, to the balls of my feet to my little finger all in pain sometimes it shoots through the body)

Some times u cant get out of bed for days.

It horrible but i have just started the gym yes to loose weight but more to loosen n stretch the muscles
