When is it okay to have sex again after first outbreak?

I recently acquired HSV-2 and appear to be coming out of my first outbreak, which I guess was moderate in terms of severity. Assuming the worst is over, and once I feel fully normal down there again, when can I try to have sex again?

I want my body to be strong enough and also less contagious, so should I wait 3 or 6 months, longer? I can't find any information on this, only how long to wait after a recurrent outbreak, not a primary one.

After the outbreak has healed completely

Thanks, but isn't a newly infected person a lot more contagious and also more susceptible to outbreaks until enough antibodies have been established? That's why I was thinking maybe 3 months minimum.

i guess it depends how bad your outbreaks are. I didn't even know I had it. I was told it was acne. I only had one noticeable outbreak in 2 1/2 years and it wasn't bad at all. I get it under my butt cheek kinda. I forget I have it bc it doesn't effect me physically really

Wow, you are so lucky! My first outbreak appears to be just finishing. So far it's been moderate in terms of severity, which is good, and I can only hope it doesn't bother me much again in future, but I am bracing myself for the possibility of (many?) recurrences, since I have HSV-2. Which type do you have?

Hsv2 .. My doctor said she was just as shocked as me when the culture came back positive. I am very blessed. Even when I got my outbreak, it didn't hurt so I was convinced it wasn't another bad. What is amazing is that when I was unaware, I was having unprotected sex with a guy for 2 years and he turned out negative...

Out of interest, did you already have oral herpes (even if only as a child) when you acquired HSV-2? I have read that people with existing antibodies to oral herpes tend to have less or no symptoms with GH, so am curious. Unfortunately(?), I have never had oral herpes.

So there's hope for me, too! That's very interesting and good to know, thanks.

Haha, yes, I like how herpes is often mistyped as heroes. We are all heroes, not herpes carriers!! ;p

Yep haha. I just tell myself it could be a lot worse.. I'm not on medication, but I think about if I was how I'd probably never get an outbreak again, since I've had one in 2 1/2 years without it ... I'll get on it once I need to
