When is it safe to walk on ankle avulsion fracture?

Two days ago I fell and ended up with an ankle avulsion fracture. The emergency room doctor gave me a boot and sent me home. I have an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon in two weeks. Am I supposed to keep all weight off my foot? Or am I allowed to walk a bit with the crutches? The ER doctor didn't really say much and I was in shock so of course I'm only now thinking about all the questions I wished I'd asked. I have put weight on it today and now after googling a bit I'm afraid to cause further damage before I have my appointment with the surgeon. Advice ? Thank you.
