Hi,I have suffered several attacks of A.F in the past, you become to understand how each one afects you, and how long they last although ive had A.F for 5 yrs ive not had an attack since july 2007 ,but i can speak from experiance when i say that on occasions ive sat and relaxed and the attack was over but also there have been times when 1 hr as turned to 3hrs and ive gone to A&E just to be in safe hands and theve kept me there untill its over and ive been ok to leave , you must decide how ur feeling when you,re having the attack ,with my 2nd attack i had not yet been to my doctors i had about 5 before i went , good for you that you took action straight away , best wishes to you . june [/b]

Hi many thanks for your reply. I am still at the stage of being quite frightened with this AF. I am on beta-blockers at the moment & have seen the cardiologist and had a echocardiogram which I am waiting for the results of. He said that sometimes they are unable to find a cause for the AF. It is so nice to have a site like this to try to understand a bit about it.

    Best wishes

Hi again Val, most people on this site r frightened of the present and the future and how this condition makes us feel, some people suffer worse than others, the attacks can be quite scary , but at least you know your not alone. It took a while ,even after i was taken to hospital to tell me what was wrong with me , they could only tell me it was either due to alcohol or stress ,im not a heavy drinker ,but i made it worse because i only drank alot one day a week, but i did suffer alot with stress ive cut down on both, to improve the quality of my life , it took a couple of tries with my medication dosage but i take sotalol and asprin daily and it worked im not cured but i am one of the lucky ones because my tablets control my attacks , maybe you should wait for your results and give your medication a chance to work , being frightened and stressed made my attacks seem to last longer, take it easy ,try and learn to cope with the A.F . bye for now ,good luck ,june
